Go Daddy question

I'm about to *hopefully* register my domain name. I'm debating about whether to sign up with the standard or the business registration. Cost is a factor since my business is a small craft and I'm just starting out. The only reason I was considering the extra $9.99/yr is so that the info that gets listed with Whois is kept private...but then I was thinking if that was just paranoid since anyone can basically google maps, etc and get all that personal info (address, phone number, etc)...what have you done & why? I was in the middle of placing my order and got nervous, so I look forward to you wise mama's advice. Thanks!

My understanding is that it doesn't matter who sees the WHOIS info. Once you buy a domain, it's usually yours as long as you continually renew it on time. You can renew it or transfer it. If you don't renew it and it goes back into "general population" it's anyone's chance to get it and sometimes people will buy recently lost domains in order to get you to pay more if you want it back.

I think this is how it goes....

Will your website or business materials use your name or home address?

If so then yeah the WHOIS info doesn't really matter

but if you have a po box or don't use your name but a business name, then you may want to consider paying for the private registration.
I do that on a blog I host. I didn't want my name all over it
hope that helps:
