Skin flaps after birth?

I'm almost 5 weeks PP and I just looked at my perineum today. I have a fairly good sized flap of skin on the right side--maybe the size of my index fingertip, and irregular in shape. My midwife had told me this was a possibility, since the repair she had to do in that area was complicated and then we noticed that it had come undone a few days PP.

This flap is upsetting to me--I know it's not a big deal, but I'm kind of disturbed. Has anyone had skin flaps like this shrink after 5 weeks PP, or is this the way it will be forever?

I had something sort of like that the first time, and it seems to still be an issue this time. Like the repairs that were made brought together parts of skin that were not meant to be attached. I was starting to think I was crazy because no one I've talked to about this ever heard of such a thing. I haven't had anyone look at it though, can't even look at it myself so I'm just going by feel.

It was suggested that I try vit E or EPO to soften the scar tissue and maybe that would help.

my friend, too. Her scarring was very extensive, though (very fast birth and not handled well by the OB et al.)

Well, I got one from my first birth, and it's still there nearly 7 years later. From what I hear it's not really that uncommon.

That makes me feel a bit better. I'd rather not have surgery.

Not exactly a flap, but I had a hole in my perineum that went though to my vagina. That disturbed me so much. I finally had it cauterized so that the skin was sort of burned together. I can't believe how much our perineums can go through. I hope you are able to heal mama.

i have one of those! at first it was all puffy because blood was still going into it, but that stopped & now it's just a small flap. i was really concerned about it at first (it just bugged me), but it doesn't bother me now. ds came out all at once & i had a small tear that was never stitched, so that's why it's there.
