CNM in Maine who does homebirth???

I have an urgent email from a mom at 30 weeks wondering if there are any CNMs in Maine who do homebirths (she's having insurance problems)?? She's in southern Maine. Any ideas? Thanks!!

there are none. i used to work in the field, and i know this for a fact. insurance, ACOG, i could go on and on.
but depending how far south she is in maine, nh home birth midwives- if they are NHLM- are insurance providers. she could check NH.

Unless things have changed I thought Sarah Ackerly ND, CPM does homebirths. My friend birthed her son at home 2 years ago with Sarah. Her practice website : http://www.northernsunfamilyhealthcare.com/index.html

oh yes, sarah does home births- and many wonderful women do. but they are CPM's (Certified Professional Midwife) not CNMs and are not reimbursed by insurance. So if you choose to have a home birth in Maine, as I did, you pay out of pocket.

Or you luck out and the insurance company makes a mistake and reimburses you because they didn't notice your midwife was not a CNM, like they did for us! Otherwise, you have to pay for a CPM.

I don't know why it didn't occur to me sooner to share this information but - the woman who initially contacted me DID find a CNM who does homebirths, in the Greater Bangor area: Clear Light Holistic Midwifery is able to bill Anthem.
