Is there a birth center in Topeka?

It's a slight possibility we'd move there next year. Thankfully, our first child will be born at the fabulous birth center in Pittsburgh. What about Topeka, KS?

If no birth center, how are hospitals for natural childbirth? Do some people go to KC for delivery?

ETA: I found a birth center online, if it's still around (assuming it is): http://www.topekabirthcenter.com

Stats look good for c/s.

I'm not sure. Here is what I found. I was looking for a midwife I met last year for you. Her name was Fran Byer I think. But here is what I found:

Yes, you are very lucky because that birth center is still there. I visited the birth center and fell in love with it. I'm traveling there for prenatal visits and birth from a town 3 hours away because in my opinion it's much better than a hospital.

I used to work as a nurse there. It is a wonderful place. You can call them to set up an appointment or a tour at 785-232-6950; if you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

ETA: There are other birthing options in the area, as well; though no other birth center. There are several home birth midwives, and I could give you their contact information if you are interested; there are three that I personally would recommend, Fran being one of them. And while I'm throwing out advice, I'd recommend you check out Lawrence as a place to live, rather than Topeka. Cost of living is higher in Lawrence--but it's (in my most humble opinion!) the best place to live in this state.

I'd have to second that about Lawrence!

Thanks! If we moved to Topeka, it would be so my husband could pastor a church to the west of Topeka, so we would not be able to live in Lawrence (ie want to be near to church, in community, etc).

Thanks for all the info!
