what are you doing for your DC for xmas (if you celebrate)

Thread Starter
I posted a thread in live with a babe and basically got flamed for thinking my baby will need something for xmas (maybe it was well intended but with my pg hormones it didn't go over well) so anyways what are you all doing for your baby's first xmas.

Maybe it has to do with my love of gift giving, but i really think everybody deserves a gift, even if a small one.

I *love* baby's first christmas ornaments, so I can't wait to pick out a super special one for him. My mom still has ours from when me and my sis were babes.

Other than that, I think I will let the grandparents and other family handle it.

Hmm, sorry you felt flamed, that doesn't quite make much sense to me. Why would anyone care if you gave your kid a xmas present?

Anyways, we celebrate the Winter Solstice on Dec. 21 for our holiday of the "holiday season". It's the longest night of the year and the time when the sun starts to return. We've never done gifts for it though. Our extended families celebrate Xmas, so we do gifts for that! I'm sure there will be lots of stuff from family, so I don't think we'll be getting anything specific for this LO. Lots of pics though I'm sure!

I will make our baby a knitted bonnet and booties. I don't want to buy any thing, because I know every one else will buy her lots. But, yeah I couldn't not get her anything. We will probably also get her a stocking.

We're definitely putting up a tree for her first Christmas (even though the cats climb it and it's so incredibly frustrating)! Nora already got a Baby's 1st Christmas ornament from her grandma, so that will go on the tree. I also want to start the tradition of getting one for her every year with the year on it.

As far as gifts, I mean, I'm sure she'll get a TON of stuff from family. I'll have to make sure she has a few cute christmasy outfits for that time of year when we're visiting people, though.

we planned on not buying for beaker, but decided that santa would leave it a stash of cloth diapers incase dd was bothered by the baby not getting anything left out from santa in the morning.

aside from that, we're not buying for it. just dd this year

I will probably get our LO something I want for him I was thinking a nice wool blanket, or maybe a lambskin. I have several baby toys already so it will probably be something I'll treasure having for him but is expensive for just an "everyday" purchase.

I read the other thread and imo, it was a bit "flamey" - I think it's just fine to buy your LO a present for Christmas!!!

I think we will buy a couple of bits and pieces, likely just a few wooden teethers/first toys and maybe some larger clothes... This is DS's third Christmas and it's just starting to get fun. We want to make it about family and celebrating Christ more than gift giving, but why is it anyone else's business what you give your LOs?

I love first christmas' also! I always have bought my babies a special wooden toy and they of course get an engraved ornament.

I agree with PPs. We will definitely be getting him a stocking and a special 1st ornament, but as far as gifts- that is what family is for. I know they can't help themselves and since he won't remember and all of his things are new to him anyways. We save our creativity for when he is a little older.

I started a tradition of making an ornament each year for my DD, and for my nieces and nephews if we are with them. I'll add DS to that once he's here. I've always intended to make a robe or nightgown for DD, pajama pants for me, shorts for DH, and some diaper covers, I guess, for DS-- out of matching fabric. Have yet to do this yet.

Today I wrapped for the new little one: a finger puppet glove from us, and DD will give him a darling stuffed turtle (backpack too). That's all. Still, I'm proud that I wrapped Christmas presents today. That's done except for the photo frames for the rest of the family with the new pictures of the 4 of us, which have yet to be taken yet, since DS has yet to arrive.

we will definately do a few gifts for this baby, ds1 will totally be upset if we don't..we are big Santa believers here and he would feel the baby was left out by Santa if we didn't. He already talks about what Santa is going to bring Santa.

We will do a wooden toy of somesort and of course a baby's first ornament...if it's a girl it will definately be getting a few outifits....stuff like that.

I'm also someone who really enjoys giving gifts and I look forward to Christmas shopping every year! I'm anxious to regain my energy so I can put on my Moby and head to the stores with Ally Rae!

I have no idea what I want to do for my little girl but I'll definitely do something. I know she doesn't NEED anything but that doesn't mean I don't want to get her something. I thought about the Baby's 1st Christmas Hallmark ornament since I get one every year from my Grandmother and have since I was born. But, I think my Mom wants to continue the tradition of the Grandmother buying them and will want to buy it for Ally from her. We'll see. Maybe I'll do something like buy a book/DVD/etc. on baby massage and treat Ally Rae to that type of love instead of a material gift.

NAK
We do Christmas and Santa here. My older 2 are 3 and 5--young enough to believe in Santa and old enough to notice if the baby doesn't get something, so I'll get her a Santa gift and a couple of small items probably!

This is #1 for us, so I don't think we will really be doing anything special. I bought a couple things for her recently, and I wondered if I should keep them as Christmas presents... but I decided not to. I'm sure family members will give gifts though. And I'm sure my mom will make her a special ornament. My mom has been making special yearly ornaments for my sister and I since we were born, so she'll continue the tradition with grandbabies.

Oh crap! That reminds me that I started x-stitching a stocking for DD before she was born and haven't picked it up since. I better get back to work on that in what little "free time" I have left!

We are picking out an ordament and stocking for the baby.. Of course the stocking will have a few baby items in it.. Other than that Ill probably get her a book or two and maybe a toy or two. Probably some clothing and diapers since my 3-6 month clothes for her consists of 5 outfits and two sleepers.. Since we need to get it, it will double as a Christmas gift.. I would feel kind of bad if I didn't do anything for her, specially after all the photos we have of DD at her first Christmas.

we celebrate Jewish and Christian holidays but aren't big gift givers (well, we try not to be but w/ kids, thats a bit difficult).

i wasnt going to give baby anything except i think i will get him a nice environmentally sustainable wooden rattle. i went to the HA outlet last weekend and have a few outfits that i *thought* wouldnt fit him but since i had a 9.12 lb. baby, i dont think i should wait until the holidays! lol!

other than that, no....toys are a dime a dozen here and even though our home is not small, its still full and im trying to get in on the decluttering challenges! lol!

im sure the family will do something and actually...thank you for bringing this up...we need to talk to them about appropriate gifts! lol!

I will do a baby's first christmas ornament with her name on it, I'll get (actually I want to knit) her a stocking, but that won't really be a present, she'd be getting it anyway, and probably a little toy or two, unless there's something else I find I need for her, then that'll be for Christmas I didn't do much for ds, and he was about the same age as this one will be. I wanted a baby gym for him, so that was his christmas present along with his first ornament, which we hung on the tree.

I love the holidays, but I really don't enjoy shopping. We are also on a really tight budget this year. So, dd will be getting a few things, and I doubt we will buy anything for ds. I may wrap up some things from around the house so dd doesn't wonder why the baby didn't get anything, lol!!

We went WAY overboard with my son, so we're gonna keep it MUCH more lowkey for this baby's 1st Christmas, lol. I figure we'll just get her a couple of pieces of clothing and maybe a rattle or small teething toy. Getting my son a Spiderman toddler bedset I think and a couple of outfits and probably some dinosaur toys since he's recently become obsessed with dinosaurs.
