I knew that would happen.

At my daughter's two month well appointment, we were seeing a new pediatrician. We went in and she was perfectly lovely at first. Commented on how great Liliana's head control was, how healthy and happy she seemed, blah blah blah.. and then we got to the vaccinations. We refused them, and she started yelling at us. "Get OUT right now! You are going to give my patients DIPHTHERIA. My idiotic parents did not get me the diphtheria vaccine, and I almost DIED from it. What kind of parents are you? Your child will not be able to attend school.. if she even makes it that far and doesn't DIE first from an illness she could be vaccinated for but are selfishly refusing!"

I kid you not. But anyway. My husband and I kept our cool, explained why we were refusing the vaccines, and quietly left. We did not want to cause a disturbance. She followed us and continued to berate us for our parenting choices. Needless to say, I filed a complaint against her with the state. I received a letter from them saying that they would look into the case and if anything was worthwhile, they would file charges.

Never heard back from them. I think it is disgusting how she is allowed to get away with that. We were looked at like we were child abusers by everyone in that office. : Just wanted to get that off my chest!

My two month appointment had a similar theme. She used Hib instead of diphtheria. My baby was going to DIE (!!) because of Hib.

*sigh*

One way to deal with doctors like that is to ask them for the data and for some medical journal articles supporting what they are saying.

And if they offer you unreferenced parent's info, say, "no, I want to see the scientific articles that explain the dangers of the disease you are claiming will kill my child, with the statistics before and after the vaccine came into use."

The most likely thing is that they haven't any such thing available and may not even know where to find it.

I am just so sorry you have to go through that, and I am also glad you learned very quickly that she was not a very intelligent pediatrician. What if your child was actually sick? This women sounds like an idiot.

I don't want my physician or midwife's personal experience and views clouding her judgement in my family's treatment.

By no means do I think all peds who are pro-vax are idiots, but any intelligent person who is looking at this rationally from a place of science recognizes that this is a gray topic with very little research on safety or effectiveness.

I love talking to nonmedical scientists who are PhD's about this because they identify instantly the weaknesses of the medical system's research and the conflict of interest in its financial sponsors.

My DH says we are glad we don't go to that doctor.
I'm sorry you had the experience and that she is getting away with it though :

Are you sure she was a doctor? She sure wasn't professional! I'd have been stunned at her behavior..what is wrong with her?? Geez!

You can always post your experience at ratemds.com to warn others to avoid her like the plague (pardon the pun).

I can't believe (actually I can) that someone would act like that. Maybe switch to a family practitioner instead. Sorry you had to deal with a psychotic doctor like that...at least you learned about that one early on though. Sheesh!

You have to realize that wbv are designed to sell vaccines. Those who don't vaccinate are wasting precious time. Once we realized that we stopped wasting everyone's time. Especially ours. That was 10 yrs. ago.

She actually did you a favor. Can you imagine if you had established yourself with this pediatrician and then been in a situation, like have your child in the hospital under this person's care, only to learn at that point how unprofessional she is or to experience her emotional outbursts, if not temper tantrum, under more dire circumstances?

I'm so sorry you went through that experience, and so glad that you reported her to the state medical board. I did that for a physician (for different reasons) and she went to the medical disciplinary board.

I can't believe a 'professional' would talk to anyone like that.
