Does my Sister have PPD?

Yes, I would say that she is probably suffering from PPD or a PPD mood disorder. If she's experiencing hallucinations, I would say that she probably needs to go to the er. Postpartum psychosis is pretty severe and I'm sure that most dr's would want her seen asap. This is not something that goes away without medication. There are medications (ssri) that are safe to take while breastfeeding. I'm not sure about anti-psychotic meds, though.

I hope your sister is feeling better soon. Is there anyone that can watch the kids while she goes to the hospital or dr?

Sounds like what I went through after both my kids where born The only good news is it is very treatable I took zoloft for my ppd both times, safest while bfing. It dosnt make you 100% normal but it sure helps.

YES. She needs treatment asap, especially with the hallucinations. She needs to tell her doctor/midwife... whomever and get help today.

Please let us know how that goes.

www.postpartum.net has info on finding a therapist. I believe there is also a hotline there that she can call and get help today. An 800 number or something. Please have her pursue this today. She can leave a message with ANY therapist and they will call her back right away. It's really important. She doesn't have to be a client yet for them to help her today.

Calming pills for what she is experiencing are a joke. That midwife should have sent her to someone right away. This is a medical issue that needs attention right now.

There is a resource page and there are several therapists listed. Otherwise, CALL the support group numbers and they will be able to give you someone in the area.

This is really serious and she needs help to. day.
