Anyone give birth in Africa, or better yet, Morocco? DH and I were talking about the cultural traditions and birth rituals (anthropologist here) and I'm so intrigued by them. Anyone??

My mom gave me this for Christmas and I absolutely love it. Gorgeous illustrations and very sweet ideas inside. Plus it's just structured enough so that I can be creative about what I include...

This is the prettiest carrier, and fit my shoulders and figure (at 5'6") much better than the Ergo. I got it when my daughter was about nine months, two years ago - it doesn't appear to have...

This potty is great - excellent value & performance! (plus it's cute!) My 9 month old DS took to it right away. He is a big boy (30 in. tall - feet not quite on floor - & 27 lbs.) and this is...

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I haven't, but I follow this blog of a US-trained mw in Malawi and Ghana. Most of her posts are about hospital birth, but some of the more recent ones (last 3-4 mos, I think) talk about traditional midwifery in Malawi.

Thanks! Very interesting! The closest I can get is Anthrosource, but even that is written sorta scientifically...I love casual 1st-hand experiences.

Look for Functions in Childbirth and Postpartum Henna Traditions - its a free download and although not the first hand experience you are looking for very interesting. DH is algerian and alot of the women where we live are North African but they generally don't talk about their births and many are actually coming to france for the birth of their child rather than staying at home - anyway I digress. There's also the film Le Premier Cri which is in french - but really very comprehensible if non-french speaking there are births from all around the world - it's a beautiful film and maybe worth a look.
