Rumor[?]: Too much protein makes us lose calcium

This is something I've seen countless times over the last couple of decades, generally on lists of reasons people should stop eating meat.

They say people with low protein intake can have a very low calcium intake and still have very low rates of osteoporosis, while peoples with high-protein diets need a great deal more dietary calcium because they're losing so much calcium in their urine.
This has come up more recently among those who have concerns about the Atkins diet and the concepts behind the general gist of it...

Any thoughts? Or rather, can someone point me to the facts? :?
