If you could meet Sally Fallon, what would you ask her?

She's speaking at a pretty small venue here in Vermont soon, and I have tickets!

I know she has written some things that didn't make sense to me, but now I can't remember them!
Certainly my copy of NT could be more supportive of breastfeeding, but that sort of feels like old news...
Should she be commended/congratulated for anything that's happened recently?
Or challenged about anything?

If you had the chance to chat with her, what would you Say? Ask? Clarify?

There must be a wealth of possibility here, but I'm drawing a blank.

Honestly? This is the first question that popped into my mind...

I would ask her why so many of her recipes are so darned awful.

You mean like the meringues? Stupid things are stuck on my good pan right now!

Or, no, wait- the banana bread?

or or or......

I'd have a few choice words, for sure, but I might ask something about how she came about all her info.

I recently watched her DVD and the whole way through I wanted to say "cut" and then fix up her lipstick with some lip liner and even out the top and bottom lip.

But seriously she is 60+ right? and a real pioneer, why diss her? Hopefully the next generation will build on what she and other have done and brought to light. She has certainly made people think about their food choices and even do their own research. She got the ball rolling - or kept the ball rolling. I doubt that she has ever claimed to be perfect. Tall poppy Syndrome is an ugly thing!

I agree Rawa, I'm not out for drama.

I'm thinking more about the power of influential people, and how satisfying it can be to get a word in when it could be constructive: be it praise, clarification, or criticism.

I would love to know more about pork safety.

I love pork and I just got 1/2 organic pig today. I can eat pork 4x week.

But I have been spending more time with my d sister who is a vet student in her 3rd year at vet U. She was telling me HORRIBLE stuff about parasites and diseases.

My d sis is doing some swine classes. I am not sure how much of this stuff applies to those poor conventional pigs vs. happy natural pigs.

I appreciate you're bringing this out. Adele Davis was the beginning of eating healthy for me. And she wrote what was known at that time. Sally Fallon has been many people's Adele Davis, and I appreciate her taking me to the next level. Her book has been invaluable to me, not for the recipes, but for all the information inside those pages!

Some of her recipes have been very, very good.: Some not so much. But she brought me here--and you've all helped me build on the foundation she laid according to nutritional knowledge. I thank her, just as I thank all of you.

When I said I had choice words, it is mainly about breast-feeding, and her meringues which stuck horribly on my pan. through the paper. probably not her fault, I know.

Not like "for real" bitterness.

I love her info, all she has done to help a movement, and in general appreciate her. I think there are a lot of people who feel more strongly on issues and are not posting purposely so as not to start debates.

I take everything I hear or read with a grain of salt so I tend to not shoot the messenger.

Hmmm maybe something about chocolate as a traditional food?

I'd totally ask her about the breastfeeding thing too.

Hi all - I feel a bit foolish after my last post - I think i was having a bad day and was a bit defensive about Sally Fallon. Forgive me!! I'm off to google Adele Davis!

The pig question would be an interesting one because I have heard the same - they have a lot of parasites. I love pork too.

Ya, know I think she had such a hard time trying to breastfeed, I really feel it might have been very painful and traumatic for her and I wouldn't even go there.

But ya, I'd probably ask why she wasn't more clear on some of her recipes. I don't think the banana bread would be that bad if it had more honey in it. : I need to re-try that recipe.

Actually, I'd forget anything I ever wanted to ask her and just stand there and gush and maybe tell her how great I think she is.

I read "If you could meet Sally Fallon" like it was Obama or something. I was thinking "who hasn't met Sally Fallon?" (meaning TF people) Then I realized, oh yeah, I live in Maryland. I think I even get my food from the same farms as she does.

Carry on....

When I heard her speak, this is definitely the impression I got. She has her position because of her experience. Unfortunately, that position really turns a lot of people off!

As for the pork, hearing her speak I KNOW she eats bacon because she talked about it a lot. And when someone asked her about pork, she said they left it out (of NT) in deference to her Jewish co-author and that there ARE some pork recipes in Eat Fat, Lose Fat. She also said something like "and there are some studies questioning pork and the blood changes seen after eating it..." or something like that. So it sounded to me like she wasn't giving up her bacon and sausage and scrapple, but understood if others wanted to avoid it.

I'd probably thank her for all her hardwork and information but slip in something about how healthy my 35month old, currently BF toddler is and make a crack about being a little "tribal" about breastfeeding. It's a real important topic for me and I would never degrade her for having difficulties, but I think she should wake up about LLL and the importance of BM as a traditional food (even if the mommy isn't TF perfect). Maybe I'd just talk to her while NIP my huge DD!!!!!
