Can anyone help me make a raccoon costume?

My DS (4.5 yo) has decided he wants to be a raccoon for Halloween. I've looked at costumes online and I either don't like them or don't want to spend the money. It didn't seem to me that a raccoon costume would be that hard to make, but I'm not the best at sewing. I got some brownish gray cat ears and a tail, which I'll paint black stripes on, and I thought I'd paint a little black mask onto DS's face (or maybe he can wear a small mask). But what about the body? Should I get some fake fur?

Anyone ever made anything like this?

TIA!

I would just use a cheap sweatsuit for the body. A charcoal gray one would be be closest in color probably.

I wouldn't muck with the fake fur... it gets very itchy unless you line it.

What a great idea, I love it!

We have done many animal costumes that have turned out really cute, and they often start out the same, depending on your weather, a long-sleeved shirt, jacket, or hoodie, sweatopants, and socks and stretchy gloves.

So for a raccoon, you could get a gray shirt, fleece jacket or hoodie, and some gray sweatpants, buy one of those bandit masks or do the facepaint like you mentioned if you prefer, and do black stretchy gloves on the hands and black shoes or black socks over shoes for the feet. WIth you adding the tail and ears, it will be complete. I think he will look adorable!!!
