ISO felted poppy pattern

I want to make some pretty felted poppies for a maternity shoot idea but for the life of me I can't find a pattern anywhere.

In my search for ideas on how to make them I found this picture of one and it's absolutely gorgeous!!

How would I make this or something similar?

I looked on Ravelry and the ONLY pattern for a poppy is on the non existent magknits.com:

TIA!!

Nicky Epstein's Crocheted Flowers

Nicky Epstein's Knitted Flowers

Dunno which version you need. You can probably get either from your library, or through interlibrary loan, if you can't/don't want to buy 'em. I've never seen the knitted flowers book, but the crocheted one is great, so IMO the knitted is probalby well worth buying if you can.

It looks to me like those could be wet-felted, with some stitching round the edges of the leaves and a wetfelted bead in the centre. Can I ask a really dumb question, though, and wonder why you're felting them and not going for the fragility and translucency of paper for the poppy petals?

Thanks Sagesgirl!!! I'll have to make a trip to the bookstore today.

We are naming our daughter Poppy and I'd like to use the flowers I used in the photos as embelishments on other knitted things I am making for her
