Circ discussion in class....

I walked into my A&P class last night only to hear my professor asking a guy in my class (he's a surgical tech) how many circs he has seen? I instantly got nervous because I've never talked to a stranger about this, heck I've hardly even talked to family about this, lol, and I wasn't going to keep my mouth shut.....anyway...the guy said for the 2 years he has been working there, 2 MAYBE 3. So the professor said "so something must've happened where it needed it be done". The surgical tech said "oh it was interesting" he didn't say it in a good way either, like a yucky way. So the woman that was sitting next to the surgical tech said something about it's better to do it as babies and the guy agreed with her. And I came right out and told the professor that it doesn't need to be done. He said that his daughter (or son, I don't remember), is having a boy and they're looking into not doing it because they've seen there's no reason for it!! So I confirmed what he said! The lady said "well you have to clean it" so I said you have to clean it regardless, and she's like "well yeah". Then the professor went on saying they've done studies about pain relief and all and it doesn't work. They've hooked the babies up to machines and it monitors hormone levels etc, and the pain relief don't work. And I said, that and most Drs. don't even wait for the pain meds to kick in anywa and he agreed! So the other 2 didn't say anything more....they only listened to me and the professor!!! Wonder if it made them think?

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!

Way to go, sounds like you did a great job of giving factual information that corrects uninformed and misinformed myths.

Thanks! I wish I would've said more. I mean I think I did good but I kinda wish the conversation would've went further. I could've brought up the facts about the foreskin and whatnot and why it's there etc etc. But the convo ended pretty quick so I couldn't say anymore, lol. Oh well....at least his soon to be grandson will most likely remain intact!

Great job speaking up. You may have impacted multiple people..esp. in the medical field, that is wonderful.
