thick scalp flakes on almost-5yo

my dd has had a cradle-caplike scalp problem for along time. it seems to go away, then comes back. anyone have a shampoo (or super safe diet supplement) that has helped with this problem?

we started washing with california baby, very gentle and additive free. but after an initial appearance of success, it has not helped.

My 5yo had the same problem and nothing worked at all until the kids got lice last year. To treat the lice I soaked their heads in a coconut/tea trea/rosemary oil combination, covered them with shower caps for an hour, then combed with a metal fine-tooth lice comb.

A completely unexpected side effect was that the metal comb lifted the thick, crusty cradle cap stuff right off. Like magic! We'd tried oil+comb before, but never left the oil to soak that long and never used a lice comb.

It has never come back.

zinemama, what ratios did you use? And did it work on the lice, too?

My daughter had that from birth till we started treating her eczema with homeopathic utica urens and fish oil pills-cleared up both things in about a month and she hasn't had them since

Lets see. I think I used a combo of 2 Tbs olive oil and 5 or 6 drops each of the essential oils. I probably tossed some lavendar oil in there, too.

It definitely killed whatever live lice were on his head. But no matter what you use you still have to do the combing religiously for a couple of weeks to get the nits.

However, in our case, what really took care of the lice was buzzing the boys' heads. Drastic, but very effective.

Would this be safe to use on my 15 month old? He has horrible cradle cap.

Safe, yes. Easy? Not so much with a wriggly toddler. I tried it back when my boy was little and was never able to do it. You have to cover the kid's head so the oil doesn't get everywhere, but show me a little kid who won't tear that cover right off. And since you describe your youngest as a wild one...well, good luck!
