Birth Control - I'm going with the Paraguard. I was charting TTA and ended up pregnant with #3 much sooner than expected because my cycles were not really predicatable at all. And that crazy hormone surge during ovulation made it near impossible to avoid being intimate, lol. I can't do hormones either, so my choices are pretty limited. Although 9 out of 10 women I've talked to who had the Mirina absolutely loved it. I guess the hormones aren't nearly as systemic as they are with other forms of bc. HTH!

If all goes well with this baby I will be sending dh to get a little snip snip....I have been through enough, lol!

I'm in the same boat as Elise. Someone's getting fixed after this one.

In all seriousness, we'll go back to using FAM with a diaphragm/condom backup during the fertile time until we figure out about a vasectomy and whether insurance covers it, etc.

Meeting with doula went great! I'm so happy. And we're bartering for half the fee, which is wonderful (mr. nighten's doing some computer work for her).

But it's official. We've paid her retainer and we have a doula!!! :

We had our followup ultrasound today. We are having................. A GIRL!!!!!! Very exciting, I knew already because the ring thing and the chinese calendar and I just had a feeling however it's nice to get confirmation now I can buy pink diapers. ds has been certain since we told him we were having a baby that he was having a sister so he knew too.

My back is still bothering me. Went to the chiro today and I have to go back on Friday. I ordered a belly cradle which is like a belt but also has over the shoulder straps to hold my belly up and hopefully help my back. I made stew today and it smells delicious.

We have a meeting with a doula next month.

Birth control- hmmm. Probably just chart/FAM again, I also swore I'd never go back on hormonal birth control, and we hate condoms. I doubt we're 'done' our family, but we may want to wait a bit!

Congrats on the girl Nillarilla! How neat that your predictions were realized.

Tired!

And I just want to add, I just love it, love it, when this baby moves. Kick me, please!:

We were pretty much just using condoms for birth control once my cycles returned after my 3rd baby. Thankfully, the pattern that I have is that my cycle stays away as long as I am nursing my babies throughout the nighttime. Once my babies start sleeping longer stretches at night, my cycle returns. Anyway, once cycle returned, we started using condoms. This is just an FYI . . . but I got pregnant while using a condom. . . and here is the kicker: THE CONDOM DIDN'T BREAK!
So, I must assume that it was a leaky condom??? And it wasn't visible to the eye????

Crazy!

After this baby, we are not sure yet what we will do.

I've never been able to get pregnant until my kids are nightweaned or nearly there but we also don't use BC. I'm considering getting fitted for a diaphragm but I don't know. I wont use anything hormonal and have 0 interest in permanent surgery for either of us.

Nighten, congrats on the Doula! Woo Hoo!

Nillarilla, congrats on the baby girl. So fun!

My Dr/friend recently told me a story. She said that a friend of hers went through all of the infertiltiy problems that I did and finally got pregnant with twins using fertility meds and IUI (same things we did). She figured they didn't need to use birth control b/c of the infertility but she got pregnant again right away! So now it has me really thinking...that was going to be my plan too! I think I will chart and if I get pregnant again so be it! It would really be wonderful to not have to go through all of that again...just not sure that I'd like to get pregnant only months after giving birth!

Congrats in the girl Nillarilla! (I did the needle test multiple times and it said boy, but nope not for us.)

for birth control I don't really know. i was going to have him get snipped, but I am not sure I want him too now. I might just start using FAM again, and get a new thermometer. Not that i really need to chart I KNOW when I am fertile b/c I demand sex, and if he doesn't comply I get pissy and mean. So fairly obvious to both of us.

Queen, my favorite part is feeling Baby move inside. My girls are awfully fond of it as well.

I thought diaphragms were a hormonal method? Or are they one of the methods you have to put in hours before sex and then leave them in for hours afterward? I won't do hormonal methods anymore either. DH and I have been successfully using condoms for a long time. I would like not to use birth control anymore. But although we had always agreed on two kids, now I find myself so pulled to go for a third. But I'm in my mid-30s so if we have a third I won't want to wait at all. So I think we'll use condoms for the first few months until we're ready to decide, and then either just stop using birth control altogether or do a vasectomy.

I haven't even considered bc! But I will definitely *not* be going back on hormonal bc as my cycles were very messed up when I went off and it took us over a year to conceive this little one (after an entire year off bc before even trying). We will probably just do charting with condoms as back up.

Queen of my Castle - I know! I love the movements and kicks! It always makes me smile so I think I may look crazy sometimes.

My husbvand is getting the V after we have this baby. He'd like to get it now, but I'm afraid that he'll jinx the baby. We've gotten pregnant twice using FAM, so that's not going to be our method anymore. Our FAM consisted of using protection during fertile times. Once I ovulated on day 5 of my cycle and got pregnant with my 3rd child and then I ovulated on day 25 and got pregnant with twins. So, even though my periods are regular, my ovulation is sometimes wacky.

I'm a little worried about this baby. It kicks soooo much. I can feel it kicking with feet around the cervix area and then it kicks up to the left, then up at the top, then on the right. It's doing crazy flips in there. I've lost a baby late in the pregnancy before so I'm so worried about his cord. Some people feel more reassured at the 24week mark, but not me. I'm always afraid that I won't catch a problem in time. Ugh.

I find ultrasounds somewhat reassuring, but since I had that appt with the crazy ultrasound dr, I don't want to go back there. I guess I'll have to ask the midwives to send me somewhere else. This baby had a choroid plexus cyst and I would like to see if it's gone by 28weeks.

I keep looking at his little 3d picture on my fridge. He's a really cute baby and I can't wait to hold him.

True, but you have to ovulate to get pregnant and if you are charting you should be able to tell that you are going to ovulate even before your first period returns.

Mirena's drug reps must give him some very nice pens... I would be leary of a doc who doesn't give you lots of options for bc, since there are so many out there.

As a proponent of the FAM I have to say that the point of this method is to be aware of when you are fertile (when you are ovulating) based on the signs your body gives you. So if you are reading and charting those signs correctly, and avoiding intercourse if you don't want to conceive, it should not matter at all if you ovulate at different times every month. Just didn't want anyone getting scared away from this method if they might be considering it. It is a wonderful NATURAL method for avoiding or acheiving pregnancy!

We will always use FAM due to our religious beliefs but this is the problem I have too! The time I am fertile is the time (sometimes the ONLY time) I want to dtd!

Nillarilla, congrats on the girl!

nighten, I'm glad you got a dula. I think I want one too, and I don't think Huz would mind at all, but I'm just not sure about spending the money, if it would be repetitive with the midwife there, etc. (There are only six LDR rooms at the hospital here and they've never all been full....) I'm going to talk to my midwife about it at my appointment on Monday. Does anyone know what the average cost of a dula's services is? I'm in south Florida if that makes a difference.

I think FAM is fantastic, but I've been too scared to try it without back up. I don't know what I'm going to do for b.c. after Baby is born, but I'm going to restart charting as soon as possible, just to get back in the flow of it.

Ditto here. How dare he not be in the mood?!

I finished all my lunch AND my afternoon snack by 12:30 today, and now I'm thinking about what I'll eat next. Damn, and I ate oatmeal AND a yogurt and an apple this morning. I'll be eating all day today I bet. Boy oh boy! If this keeps up I'm either going to go broke or hurt my back from lugging half my fridge's worth of food to work every the morning. Meanwhile right now I'm thinking about peanut butter...maybe splurge on a chocolate peanut butter smoothie from Jamba Juice :

Haha Citykid - I do that too. Lug a bunch of fruit and snacks to work thinking they'll last for a couple days and then eat them all by lunch! At least you're eating healthy things.

Lisa... I'm so sorry to hear that you've suffered a late term loss in the past. That must've been devastating.

Not having been pregnant before, I'm surprised at how much I worry about a late term loss as well. I'm not normally a worrier, but some of the stories from mamas here on MDC make me so sad, and so scared for the baby.
And I hear you about not catching a problem in time ... we live three hours from the nearest hospital that could deal with such issues and we have no diagnostic equipment here either. And in winter, we can't be flown out.
Hang in there, mama ... every day brings us closer to our little ones.
