anyone know of allergen free type of cheerio?

Is there such a thing? we need something that's finger foodish, and free of gluten (I guess that includes oat flour & barley flour?), corn, dairy, eggs, and especially nuts.

We just tried Perky-Os Frosted.
The ingredients are: Whole Sourghum Flour, Organic Powdered Sugar(Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Corn Starch), Rice Flour, Sunflower Oil, Tapioca Starch, Evaporated Cane Juice, Salt

It also had added vitamins and minerals.

Labeled Gluten Free and Nut Free

We have just begun this elimination diet adventure so I can't speak with great authority about how they taste compared to other gluten free cereals, but we enjoyed them. HTH.

Perkyo's might work, but DS would never eat them. I didn't like them either. How about Rice Chex?
The ingredients you listed for Perky-os said corn.... didn't OP say no corn? We do Rice Chex, Koala Crispies (like Cocoa Krispies), and Crispy Rice cereal (oh and Nutty Flax, but they're good in granola bars, not so fun for just plain eating). We also do puffed rice and puffed millet (there's nothing in there but the single grain).

thanks ladies.

The original perky o's have no corn starch, but the apple cinnamon & frosted do. I wish we could do the cocoa krispies but label says may contain traces of nuts, darn!! I just emailed nature's path to let them know they should really make nut containing products in dedicated facilities. I hate that there are sooo many things out there that we can't eat b/c of the x-con. issue

wishing the rice & kamut cereals had iron for my anemic babe...

i don't have a specific brand reccomendation but thought i'd mention that kroger has had brochures about gluten-freeness posted by their natural foods section and i think they have special labeling now within the store so that may be a good place to shop...........

I always see those Koala Krispies in the store, and they look so yummy... So you guys do ok with them? I noticed that they have chocolate "flavor".

The Koala Krispies are my sweet treat. DD and I really like them. I eat them dry, just as a snack food. DD puts rice milk on hers. And she's okay with them (no dairy, no soy, no corn, no egg, no gluten, no who knows what else). We only get them on day 3 of the rotation so we can't OD.
Yeah, all the other ingredients look good, like maybe something we could (eventually) eat... except for the "flavor". I hate that word. Because that really could mean anything- like corn.

My LOs (and I) like the Perky O's original. They are their own flavor (i.e. NOT a cheerio sub!) but they grow on you and they are handy. We mix them into "trail mix" (perky o's; raisins; safe chocolate chips).

The koala krispies were awesome. I can't remember why we had to go off them - maybe it was tocopherols? they were tasty while we ate them, though.

My DD can have them and she's super-sensitive to corn.
I don't know if your LO will go for this (mostly depends on age I think) but my DD LOOOOOVES plain brown rice cakes, crunched up into small little kernels. It's her "treat" that she usually gets once a day and keeps her busy for a while as she picks up each little piece.

I do that too, when the other kids are having popcorn (I even put it in a plastic "popcorn" box). I get the "lightly salted" ones. I had forgotten about that!

I was going to suggest Koala Krisp or any of the other cereals made by the same company (but read labels carefully! Penguin Puffs are NOT gluten free!!)

You can get "small finger food cereal' without allergens, but I'm not sure about specifically getting that O shape. Anyway, a child used to cheerios might be more willing to accept Koala Krisp or Panda Puffs but object to an O cereal if the texture isn't exactly the same as cheerios.

yeah DS really likes that O shape. He used to have oatios but we switched to cascadian farm purely o's b/c of the iron issue. Now that we're going off gluten, they're both out, sadly. Hopefully he'll like the perky o's. he does like the erewhon crispy rice so maybe between those two it will be alright. I bought enjoy life granola and it was way too crunchy for him (plus gross taste to me). I like the rice cake idea. He likes them a lot so I will try crushing them up - great idea!

CerO's are another variety. You'd have to check ingredients.

They've been discontinued--the company shut down. I'm so bummed--they're the only O cereal that dd likes.

OP: Check out glutenfreemall.com and other online gluten-free retailers. They'll have a bunch of cereal options and will list all ingredients.

Also, the Koala Crisp box says it may contain traces of peanut and tree nuts (they manufacture a PB cereal). I've never felt comfortable giving to my nut-allergic child.

Trader Joe's has Joe's O's...oat cereal without the wheat you will find at the end of the ingredient list on Cheerios. Not sure about corn...we weren't avoiding it then.

AFA gluten goes, oats are iffy unless they are certified GF oats. So the TJ's Os would be out unless they are certified GF. That's the bummer about oats. We used to loooove granola, but at $7/lb for GF oats, that is out now.
