No there is not. You will have to get the diptheria/tetnus and I think those aernt available till after 7yrs old. They are getting harder to come by most ERs and DR's offices are only keeping DaPT shots. ( at least thats what my brother and sister have said they are both ER nurses)

I'm pretty sure I got a tetanus only shot at my local health dept a couple years ago.

There IS a solo tetanus vax available for kids over 7 years.

BUT do you know how tetanus is contracted? Do you know how rare it was even pre-vaccine? Do you know how much MORE rare it always was in kids?

Why do you think having "rough and tumble" kids would increase their risks?

i figured having kids who are always falling cutting themselves up, scratching up knees and hands , constantly covered in dirt, and mud, jumping in puddles there is no shortage of street debris/dust around here. i mean all those open cuts and dirt have to be risk factors right?(and trust me i clean my kids but my little boys could find a way to get dirty in the bathtub lol).

my kids get a new cut almost everyday and they roll around on the grass, dig straight into dirt with thier hands (they even got into the potting mix several times) - they are very rough and tumble. we haven't given them the tetanus or DTaP vax and neither has contracted anything of the sort. either we're very lucky or there is much more to the tetanus story.

Nope. Not risk factors according to any research I've found.

Tetanus is SO incredibly rare (and always has been) that it's hard to see trends. BUT common tetanus injuries seem to be- major trauma- car accidents, crushing injuries etc. Burns. Injuries in the elderly and diabetic.

Not kids with dirty scrapes

Oh and OPEN cuts really aren't a risk at all. Tetanus can not reproduce where there is oxygen. So as a rule of thumb, if there's blood or an open wound, it's really not much of a risk at all.

What Angela said!

Please research everything that has been written about tetanus in the archives. Your kids are not in danger of tetanus. Kids just don't get tetanus. They bleed to quickly and that is what prevents tetanus.
