What live-action movie for my 5 y.o. DS?

I'm looking for a DVD for DS for Christmas. His current favorites are: Aristocats and Toy Story 1&2. We just watched Snow White and he really loved it, especially the slapsticky humor of the Dwarfs.

I'm thinking he might like something live action. Sandlot? I was also wondering about Milo and Otis or Cats and Dogs. Underdog?

Anyway, if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
thanks,

What about Mr. Magorium`s Wonder Emporium?

I LOVED that movie, and so did my son.

My 3 yr old LOVES Mary Poppins. It holds up remarkably well plus it's not scary.

My boys really like Night at the Museum. It might be a smidge scary if you're super careful about what he watches or if he's sensitive, but my kids don't find it scary at all (considering they also like Star Wars and stuff like that).

It's not live action, but my ds is crazy for "Cars".

Mary Poppins and Cars are in our repertoire! I think Night at the Museum might be too much for him. I don't think he's ever seen a PG. The Wonder Emporium is a definite possibility, though! I'm also putting Babe on the list.

Anyone else?

My 5 year old daughter really did like Underdog, a lot more than I thought she would. Milo and Otis is really a cute movie. My daughter was into Two Brothers for awhile, also.

Garfield is a hit in our home.

we watch a lot of animated (the Disney/Pixar are among faves). But some live action hits here are:

The Air Bud movies. We have Air Bud, AirBuddes and Snow Buddies.
Eloise at Christmastime
The Parent Trap (new)
Scooby Doo
The Princess Diaries
Matilda

My 5-year old son loves the Beatles movie "Help!" - not too scary, goofy humor and great music.

Some favourites in our house that haven't been mentioned yet are:

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Wizard of Oz
Cat in the Hat
Enchanted
The Princess Bride

We had family movie time yesterday and watched this. We all loved it. Not very frightening or anything for my 4yo. She also loves the Garfield ones and Charlotte's Web.

Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium had my dd (7) in tears - she asked not to finish watching it. She could tell he was going to die and it freaked her out, bigtime...

She loved Wizard of Oz and Night at the Museum though.

Five Children and It is good too.

If you are at all into classics (or even if you're not!) I can't recommend this book highly enough:

The Best Old Movies for Families: A Guide to Watching Together
by Ty Burr

Robin Hood with Errol Flynn has been the biggest hit with our four year old, but also anything with Gene Kelly, especially the little known It's Always Fair Weather. [Yes, he's now taking tap dance lessons.] Singing in the Rain also went over very well.

The book is amazing. Very fun read, lots of great info on films, and insightful thoughts on why it's good for everyone to have kids sometimes watch movies made for grown-ups.

I'm not sure if they'll be a good fit for your DC but 2 year old loves the Neverending Story, Dark Crystal, and the Witches.

How about Stuart Little or Babe?

Not live action, but what about a Miyazaki movie?
My Neighbor Totoro is wonderful,
Kiki's Delivery Service
The Cat Returns

All amazing movies.

The Water Horse is a real favourite in our house at the moment along with Nanny McPhee, The Golden Compass and the first of the Harry Potter films - the Philsophers Stone - Mary Poppins is a favourite here too.

At 5, both my LOs loved Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (a fav of mine growing up), any and all Veggietales movies, all the Harry Potters and The Wizard of Oz.

We just recently saw Nanny McPhee, but that would definitely have been a hit at our house years ago! We it!
