That was a wonderful post Pat
And I agree with whoMe, adding large amounts of nutrition is key to healing... and is the entire traditional foods point of view.
I would emphasize large amounts of bone broths for minerals, be consistent, everyday, several times/day. And do look into food chemical intolerance and consider it. Ferments might not be tolerated well for this reason. The thing with food chemical intolerance is that it often masks or emphasizes other reactions.
Suzukiaustin,
I personally would work to save a bf'ing relationship with certain nutritional supports such as vitamin C to bowel tolerance to neutralize mercury if that is the issue. And again, large amounts of minerals are also key. Most people following a SAD (Standard American Diet) are very deficient in magnesium, zinc, vitamins A and D and omega 3s which have severe implications for many immune diseases. And coupled with the fact that humans truly have a higher need for all nutrients than the "ridiculous RDA"... well I think it's helpful to consider that pretty much *all* nutrients be considered deficient!
Learning more about traditional diets and using them as a basis of what is "normal" and "necessary" for human health was very helpful for me. And also the basis of the orthomolecular view of curing disease with nutrients. For example, vitamin C in small doses can support health, but in large doses, it's a valuable treatment.
I'll ditto, NCSS is the best. The edition for Toddlers and older children is great advice too.
