A while back someone recommended a brand of gelatin for cooking. I can't remember what it was. Right now I am using Knox for my egg free cooking, but I would like to investigate something else.

any suggestions?

I have used Bernard Jenson Gelatin. It is made from beef bones.

I am also egg free and am craving some pumpkin pie.

oh thanks good info. we cant have beef. oh. . . what is knox made of ??? beef?

I am also craving pumpkin pie. I just can't find a recipe that creates the custardyness of pumpkin pie. I have tried a recipe with corn starch, but it wasn't great. I will probably make it for Thanksgiving anyway. I love to have pumpkin pudding around as a snack. This is the one of the few egg free things I haven't solved.

Please share your recipe for pumpkin pudding, yum!

I have been thinking about pumpkin pie, wondering if using some kind of cheese like ricotta might make the texture more custardy.

Is there a gelatin that ISN'T made from beef? I would love to know... we can't do beef either. And all of my other egg replacers (flax, tapioca starch) are now on our bad list...

There might be some made from fish at a Jewish market. I know I have gotten Kosher for Passover marshmallows made with fish gelatin.
