Planet Fitness?

Has anyone ever joined one of these? I just got a flier saying they were starting one in my town, and it's only $10 a month plus a $29 start up fee. There's also something called a $20 annual rate guarantee, but I don't know what that is. I went to their website, and I'm not finding a lot of info regarding what they offer and what my $10 a month will get me.

we don;t have those here, but we do have fitness 19 and anytime fitness here. The rates are similar. For me, I needed supervised child care and I wanted group classes (aerobic classes). So I chose a full service gym (Lifetime Fitness). It is expensive, $78/mo for me and 3 kids, and I totally balked at the thought of paying that. But I really like it there, so do the kids. Since we like it, I have been going 4-6 times a week without exception since Jan. That to me makes the dues justifiable. HTH

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want to do serious weight lifting then they have some crazy rules. If you are looking for cardio and machines then it is worth a look.

Personally their weight lifting rules make it not worth it for me.

I just joined PF. It's totally no frills; no childcare... they don't even offer towels for the showers, you need to bring your own! But for $20/mo. I can work out whenever I want, bring a friend every time I go in, get unlimited tanning and massage chairs. I'm all about the cardio, and I go in the early mornings before my DH leaves for work, so childcare isn't an issue. It's about 80% cheaper than the other gyms in my city, so I'm pumped to have PF here!

I joined! I'm very excited. See, their weightlifting rules made it more appealing to me. They have a personal trainer on staff free to all members, and they have a circuit room where you can do a Curves-type workout. And for $10 a month? I'm feeling really positibe about this. It's the first thing I've done for myself in a really long time.

No grunting, no dropping weights, no showing off, no swearing. She called it a "No lunkhead" rule.

They also do not allow you to deadlift, any type of deadlift.
