So, I have decided that the full covered look is just not for me, at least not all day every day.
I have settled on wide cloth headbeads that tie at the base of the head. I can adjust it throughout the day, and keep the headaches at bay.
I bought a few, but when I realized how easy they would be to make... I started working on my first homemade one! It kind of looks like the ones at Garlands of Grace, but a bit different.

Just wanted to share.

Liquesce- You look lovely! Congrats on your marriage! All the best.

P&L- I think the garlands of grace headbands are totally adorable. Glad you found something that works for ya that isn't giving you a headache. Everyone is different - I love my tichel.

The tichels weren't giving me a headache so much unwanted attention. The headband is less... screamy?... and allows me to go about my day without having to stop every 13 seconds and explain that no- i am not a noviate/postulate, no I am not orthodox, and no I am not Amish/Mennonite.

I am glad you : your tichel. I love mine as well, but they are going to be for Church, now. Give my mantialls a break!

Me too ... I actually keep thinking about buying one or two for home wear, and I don't even cover at home.

I had a little giggle when I read this.

The only one who consistantly asks me questions about my cover is my sister. You'd think she'd be be used to it by now! ha ha. Everyone else takes it in stride.

I'm uber glad you found something that works for you that doesn't get you too many questions!

Its laundry day and I best get at it!

Where do you get your jean skirts?
I am having one heck of a time finding nice long ones!

Hello ladies,
I had heard there was a headcovering group on this board, and I finally found it!
I have covered full time for at least 8 years now. I moderate a group devoted to this subject and have tons of links in our blog.
I have enjoyed getting to know other ladies of like mind on the net:

I wear a tichel, but in the past tended towards the OGBB, Mennonite and charity styles.
The tichel is a much better fit for dh and I though.

Do you sew?
The wrap style over at www.tznius.com is extremely easy to make. I have made several now, and by far, my favorites are the denim and linen ones.
All you need to know is how to use scissors, a measuring tape and sew a straight line.

I ordered two tichels from coveryourhair.com. They are really thin, light weight, and square. I am not sure I really like them. Are they all square? I think I would prefer a longer, more rectangular one.

Not to mention that I am just ending my Great Shedding (I get after having a baby) and my hair is now about a third to a quarter what it usually is, it is REALLY thin. (Yes, it really sheds THAT much!)

I just can't keep the things on! I attached a comb, but it only made it hold in the one place and it slipped off everywhere else. Perhaps I am just putting the comb in the wrong place (center top)? Because of my shedding, my hair now looks extreemly frazzled and I think I would LOVE to wear the covering (partly for "covering" reasons and partly for looks). Perhaps I am just not able to get them to work.

What is a standard tichel size (and how do you pronounce it anyways?)? And is there a place that I can find one bigger than the ones I have?

I also like simplicity and "old fashioned", so I guess I am picky about colors and patterns (I don't like a lot of the patterns I see or the "standard" colors or prints used).

Kidzaplenty~ Not sure how to link to individual posts, but check back at post #194 in this thread. Pretty much every store I linked to sells rectangular scarves (or "big honkin' rectangles" as I will now forever be calling them, thank you smeisnotapirate*).

*Note: You'll be pleased to note that, having not gotten around to buying drapes for the new apartment yet, my enormous scarves are subbing in for the purpose quite nicely at the moment

Thanks! I don't know how I missed it.

Tichel is pronounced with a gravely sounding K. Its a Hebrew word.

The trick to keeping them on is to use 4 small clippies, one on each side of the ear, or two large clippies behind the ear.
Mine never slip.
I have a series of pics on our blog that I posted today, showing how I wear mine.
I do not have any clips in, as I was taking a bunch of pics
The blue and white one is a long rectangular one, and the other is square.
Square ones from Tznius are 36" by 36".
Most of mine a bit smaller, as I bought them at an indian retailer.

What type of clippies do you use? And thanks for posting those pics. I think I have the idea of how to put it on and wrap it, I just can't seem to keep it in place. Will any clips work? I am not sure what kind will stay in my hair, as most really slip right out of my hair. Or does adding the tichel with the clips keep them from slipping as they keep it from slipping?

I feel like I am just incompetent asking all these silly, redundant questions, but I wish it would just come easy, as easy as it seems for some people.

I use the snap clips. When you use them on both sides of the ear, the tichel will stay in place all day.
Wrapping the ends over the head after clipping, covers the clips up pretty well too.
You can use nail polish to paint clips to match the coverings as well. The polish is flexible, so it does not chip easily.

Thank you very much! I am off to get some clips for the tichel I have. I will see if I can get it to work tomorrow!
