"Cover"-ed Girls! - Page 3

We had a big discussion in last month's Jewish Mamas thread about haircoverings and where to buy them. I'm going to copy over some of those links now so it's easier for any of us to find them (the Jewish mamas who have moved onto a new thread and the non-Jewish covering mamas who havent' seen these links yet at all.)

I didn't notice you were from around Lancaster. This is almost as much a thread for near neighboring mamas as headcovering ones it seems.

I love seeing locals around here!

I'm snood crazy, too. They're so comfy and keep your hair off your neck.

I'm about 30 mins from lancaster too (in fact I should probably put that on my "location" instead... but anyhow...)

I wear snoods. some from Christian covering sites and one from a Jewish site... I LOVE snoods. I'm snood-crazy. no really, the veils and caps to me are SO uncomfortable! I can't stand wearing my hair in a bun. ruining it by crushing it all up in a heavy tight bun just doesn't work for me. it makes no sense to me to ruin my hair (it breaks off when I wear in a tight bun) and give myself headaches just to wear a certain covering. I see so many amish people with their hair pulled so tight it's falling out. OUCH! they must have heads of steel!

MOMMADUCK, I would love to see pics of the snoods you make. do you have anything you can post?
I always wondered where those girls got those great jean skirts! All I can find are the old lady ones. :

mommaduck, I'd love to see them too!

Yeah, there tend to be lots of coverers around here. Lots of covering Conservative Christians and Catholics, and a couple of us Jews. There's also a few Muslim moms who I see at Eastern Market every once in a while - probably as many of them as there are of us Jews.

Um, "hi!" I don't get down into the city very much, but how funny that it's not entirely implausible that we've crossed paths.

I must be the densest person alive.

Really? That's so cool! We should meet up at some point! Have an MDC Lancaster area headcovering moms meetup.

Now THAT would draw some fun stares.

wow I didn't realize how many were local to my area either! how cool!!

I apologise for not getting back last night. I've come down with a bug, ugh! Then I find that some of my picture files on cd have been corrupted or something (either way, my new computer won't read them). But here are a few I've been able to find:

I'll take some pictures of my daughter modeling a few later. This is only two kinds amoung my variety.

I LOVE them MOMMADUCK!!!

I have a black one just like that. I really like it but now that my hair is growing it isn't big enough. it's long enough but it doesn't fit the width of my head without hurting.

Here are a few of my favs:

I also just got this "pre tied scarf" which I use as a snood:

http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...13_2024_900471

I tuck the ties inside and wear i slightly more back to give it a snood appearance, but with a little more cover than a typical snood.

I also have this one which I love (again, I wear it in the snood style, not cap style... but i lov the versatility!)

I want to get this one in BLACK next: (it will be a while, low on funds)

We'd either look like an interfaith outreach group or the start of a bad " walked into a bar" joke.

That's what DH said! "Ok, so a Mennonite, a Conservative Christian, a Muslim, and a Jew walk into a mall with their babies..."

I think that would be hilariously fun.

HennyPenny, I love that last link you posted - the black one!

My husband got a kick out of it also...I said a, "a Reformer, an Anabaptist, a Muslim, and a Jew..." Then I told him...we're women, we can find our ground just in womanhood/motherhood

BTW, THAT would be a sight! Each of us together, walking through Park City Mall with our youngests in strollers or wraps...yep, I can picture this And it would be fun

Ok, gulp... I'm delurking for a moment.

I almost always wear a headcovering. Not fam tradition, or even religiously the norm where I grew up. Just felt right. I feel weird/naked without a headcovering.

I feel drawn to learn more about this.

Ok, relurkifying now.

Welcome!

That's really cool that you came to headcovering not through a religion. How neat!

hahahaha too funny!!

(oh and yes I love that covering too... I'm thinking since it's black and my hair is very dark you wouldn't be able to see my hair even though it's kinda see through. I REALLY want it!)

headcoverings

I ordered my first snood. I can't wait. Thanks for putting down the sites that you visit for covers. I like Henny Penny's black one.
