Butter options, what would you choose?

I normally prefer to buy Organic Valleys Pasture Butter, but it is only available in May-September, and I am trying to decide what use in the off seasons.

I am thinking I should have started stock piling it but I am new to TF and I wanted to wait until I made some decisions.

Organic Valley has cultured unsalted sweet cream butter and I was thinking that might be a good 2nd. choice. What do those of you think? I live in UT near a whole foods store and os far I haven't found any other kind of pasture butter available. I would love to hear your suggestions!

Oh and If I do end up getting raw milk I wanted to make butter, but I wanted to know if that was very easy?! ALso I have heard it doesn't keep very long.

Any answers you have for me would be of great help

Thanks in advance!

Making your own butter IS easy, and it lasts pretty well in the fridge. I've never been able to keep it long enough for it to go off, it tends to get eaten pretty quickly. The downside is that you don't get to drink full-fat milk. DD and I love our rich milk, so we haven't been making butter as much.

I use OV and love the pastured stuff. Wish I had enough deep freezer space to stock up for the whole year.

I buy non-organic local butter which is super tasty. But in your case i'd go for OV normal butter (which is what I use to buy before I found this local stuff)

I just bought Organic Valleys Pasture Butter from Whole Foods last night (its one of them limited supply ones lol), so I will cook with that then and eat the raw butter I get from my local grassfed far group.

Can you find Kerrygold near you? It's pastured, but its imported from Ireland. That might deter you, but not me. (I lived there for many years and I am now addicted to Irish butter. I buy everything else local.) It's expensive at Safeway but 1/2 the price at Trader Joe's and is available year-round. It is way creamier and yummier than any other butter I've tried.

My Whole Foods in Mass. has grass fed heavy cream. I buy pints of that and make butter out of it. When KerryGold goes on sale, I buy that, too.

I 2nd or 3rd the Kerrygold suggestion.
