What is your fave Margaret Atwood book?

My Mum asked me this the other day and it was hard to pick one. I have read quite a few. I think Handmaid's Tale or The Edible Woman might be my fave. Anyone else here love Atwood?

I really liked "A Handmaid's Tale" but I could never get into any of her other books. Too weird.

I love love love her!

Cat's Eye is far and away her best work. Really, really the best. I've read a lot of other things, and Handmaid's Tale comes close, but the more sci-fi-ish stuff is kind of meh, and some of the early fiction just isn't that great.

But Cat's Eye. If you like Margaret Atwood, read Cat's Eye.

Hard to say, although I have yet to check out The Edible Woman.

I think The Handmaid's Tale was so brilliant, and should be standard literature curriculum. But the one I've read three times, and I think about it quite often, is The Blind Assassin.

Don't you wonder what she's like in real life?

So many. I don't know how to pick.

I really like Cat's Eye, Robber Bride, Alias Grace.

Cat's Eye is great. The only book I really didn't enjoy of hers was "Bodily Harm", found that one kind of boring but still ok. I have seen her interviewed and she's very interesting.

Alias Grace. I could read that one again and again.

The only one I didn't like was Life Before Man. Otherwise, I have every much enjoyed her work.

I love The handmaid's Tale.

I found The Handmaid's Tale riveting. I still think of it sometimes when I go to use an ATM. ;-)

I read Cat's Eye, but don't remember a single thing about it.

Alias Grace.

Handmaids Tale. Although I have not yet read Edible Woman.

Oooh yeah, Alias Grace! I loved that one too!

I liked Blind Assassin okay -- didn't love it, but still a very good book. Life Before Man was my big "meh" book of hers.

"A Handmaid's Tale" is my #1 favorite book of ALL.TIME.

It's standard reading for the 11th graders at my high school, and I remember being FLOORED by it then. Every time I read it, it's better and better. And freakin' scary now.:

I've only ever read The Handmaids Tale... I have browsed some of her other books, but never bought one.

Which one do you recommend?

I like them all, but I'm partial to Oryx and Crake. I think about it every time I pass a McDonald's (chickie nubbins). I also really loved Alias Grace and The Blind Assassain. Has anyone read The Penelopiad yet?

I think that Handmaid's Tale should be required reading for life. Everyone, everywhere. I love it and find it utterly terrifying all at the same time.

I've read the Penelopiad. I liked it, but it isn't my favourite,.
