did i buy the right yarn?

i am knitting a scarf from the recent interweave felt mag (special issue 2008). its a felted scarf - knit in a lace pattern.

the yarn called for is blue moon fiber arts - peru. it doesnt say what kind of yarn it is. it doesnt even give a gauge either. when i went to the lys the lady had never heard of it so she just gave me a sock yarn that sorta closely matched the different % of fiber in the yarn (ie 50% alpaca, 20% silk etc). she said since it was a lace pattern the sock yarn would work. she didn't even look at the pattern and that makes me nervous!

i started knitting it a couple of times (with much trouble LOL) and after frogging it a couple of times in my frustration i decided i had better be sure that sock yarn is the right substitution for the recommended yarn b/c if i actually finish it and it doesn't felt right i'll be pretty annoyed.......

while i don't know what type of yarn to use - i am to use size 35 and 19 needles if that helps......

i hope someone can ease my fears!

I'm really sorry... it's actually an aran weight. Which means that you can just re-wind your ball and knit with two strands at once and nothing bad will happen

yeah, I'd be pretty irritated at that LYS chick. Peru is a worsted weight (260 yds/4 oz) yarn, with a ball band gauge of 4 stitches per inch on size 8. YOu can do what Helen suggests, which should probably work. Or you can do what I'd do which is go back to the shop and make a stink that they gave you such bad advice and sold you yarn that was completely unsuitable for the project you intended and specifically asked about.

(and hey - totally OT, but I miss you!!!!!!!!!)
