Playgroups in the Olympia area?

Hello ladies!
I'm new to the forum and interested in playgroups/get togethers/mommy groups for myself and 4 month old son...What's going on in our area?
I didn't want to read and not reply--I've had so much trouble finding other mamas to connect with in Olympia--and it's so weird because I've lived here FOREVER and love this town and really do have a lot of connections; I JUST.CAN'T.SEEM.TO.MAKE.A.PLAYGROUP.HAPPEN! I met up with a few mamas from here when I had my first daughter, about 4 years ago, but that never really took off. I kind of lurked on the board when I went back to work and would see some things kind of start to come together and then never really go any place. Honestly I don't get it! Olympia is a great town and I KNOW there are a ton of great, crunchy mamas here, I just can't seem to actually meet any of them!

Anyway, I'm due with my second any day now and am really starting to worry about the isolation factor of not knowing any other mama again. I'm crossing my fingers that maybe, hopefully, possibly we can get something started around here.

I would love to help pull something together and give it a try. I'm not actually in Olympia, but its the closest city to me and I'm willing to make the drive to be able to make some friends.
DeepLakeSwimmer- Maybe let me know when you are feeling up to it and we can plan something..Good luck with your birth and congratulations!

I just signed up for kindergym with the city of olympia, 10 am m-w-f for ages 2-4. I have been having trouble with finding playgroups and setting up a coop preschool for my DDs. So I just decided to get involved with city activities. I'll be at kindergym if anyone would like to join up! The cost is really reasonable: $37 for both my girls (kid #2 gets a discount). I have a 4 year old daughter and she would love to make more friends! We get lonely here, too, which is why I signed up for a 3 day a week class with the city. I live a little far out of the city so we feel secluded a lot.

As far as younger babies go... we're in music and movement which is for ages 6 months to 6 years. It's not going on for the next couple of months, but if they start it again next year it is a great deal and a lot of fun-- lots of crunchy moms there. Just $14 per child.

Music and movement sounds fun..My baby will be 6 months old in December so that might work out!
I'm also out of the city and feel secluded at times.

They're not having M&M in December but maybe they'll have it in January. It is lots of fun-- I hope they have it on the schedule next year!

i'm in tumwater, and getting back to work so things are hectic re: scheduling play dates. but if you all get together i'd love to join if possible.

i know olympia has a MOMS groups - or did anyway. not sure how crunchy that is, though most folks i run into in oly are pretty crunchy.

one other recommendation: a group called POWER (parents organizing for economic and welfare reform) - they are an awesome group that gets together all the time to figure out how to push for important changes for lower income working families and they are very very child friendly - all the time doing potlucks and bringing all the kiddos, hanging out at coffee shops and doing cool things. you may not be looking to join an activism group, but what they do is really important, and there's tons of crunchy mamas and kids floating around...

here is a link to their myspace website

I'd be interested in joining a playgroup too. The Kindergym thing sounds really fun too. We're expecting a baby any time now, but maybe in December we'll give that a try. Music and Movement would be fun too, my son loves making music with daddy.

I've met a few moms in the area since we moved here in August, but most seem to think I'm at least a little crazy to be planning a homebirth, etc.. I'd love to meet some crunchy mamas.
