How to find a non-vax friendly ped? (a few ?'s...)

I live in the middle of nowhere. I keep asking in the sections of finding your tribe that I can travel to for non-vax friendly peds, and I guess not many mdc mamas live near me.

My baby was born on Thursday morning, and he has jaundice. I refused the hepititis shot in the hospital, told them I wanted to check with my babe's ped first. (psst...my baby doesn't have a ped yet...) just to keep them civil and off my back. Well, it wasnt' exactly a lie. I just wanted my baby's ped to be non-vax friendly. so they wrote on my discharge paper that they want me to go ahead and take my baby to the doctor by Monday or Tuesday (I was discharged on Saturday) to (a) check his jaundice and (b) go ahead and talk (and presumably get) the hep shot.

I stopped doing well baby visits with my first kid after he was about 2 months old. He had jaundice too a few days after birth, and they checked his bilirubin, and all was well. How dangerous is jaundice, and how urgent is it that I get my newborn checked for it? They said at the hospital it was "breastmilk jaundice", to me that sounds benign, (and maybe even normal?) but I want to be sure. Do I need to get it checked out? If I go get that checked out now by any nice doctor I can find in my area, will they try to push the vaccination thing?

Is there some kind of website where I can go to to find a non-vax friendly doc?

I'm dealing with postpartum depression right now, and I don't think I could handle any harrassment for my decision. I'd rather go and see some one who is already on board, or mellowed out about my non vaxing. I can't handle much drama right now.

Any advice?

First congratulations!

You could also try a family doctor. And if and when you do take baby in is there someone 'on your side' that would go with you to take some of the stress and pressure off you? I'd advise you to say either 'we're delaying' or 'religious exemption'. A lot of people say they have better responses that way. It is hard enough finding quality care that goes with your values and accepts your insurance without the vaccination issue, so I feel for you. I'm there for my dd myself. I feel like I'm comprimising alot in our situation (not what I'm doing mind you, just 'putting up with' things I wouldn't otherwise).

As for the jaundice, it probably is fine.

Dr. Sears

Dr. Jack Newman

My dd had jaundice for an extended period of time. Its important to be sure that breastfeeding is going well. Enough wet and poopy diapers, baby gaining well, etc. Also watch that the jaundice improves (even if slowly) instead of worsening. The coloring will go from the eyes and head down. There was a clear line on my dd's chest, everything above had some discoloration, below didn't. Also the urine color should be light yellow or clearish, not dark orange or brown. Be weary of being told to stop breastfeeding for any length of time. Do your own research and get a second opinion if this happens.

Hey, congratulations!!: First, my dd had mild to moderate jaundice for a few weeks, but she was checked by her ped. and all was well...can you get him outside for a bit every day? Also, just keep BF.

As far as a vax friendly HCP, I would just look in the phone book, and call every doctor in the area, and ask them if they will take you if you are religiously opposed. No need to explain any further to them. I found mine on a a recommendation, but I first started by the phone book, and did find a few.

My doctor is Russian, and she is much easier on vax'ing than I have found American doctors to be. Just a thought...the area she is located in is very Polish-Russian populated. Good luck.
