I've read a lot about it, but not sure I understand it properly. I know it happens with live vaccines, like MMR and varicella.
There's been a to-do in this area, because a local chiropractor "came out" about not vaxing her kids and using a religious exemption, and some of the reactions have been absurd and violent. I was reading a few of the posts... one anti-vaxxer mentioned the possibility of a child receiving MMR, and because of shedding, another person actually getting the disease. Another poster commented that situation was impossible, because MMR was an attenuated vaccine and no one can catch the disease from it.
I thought an attenuated vaccine was simply a weakened form of the pathogen. I'd think that would mean it was more likely to induce the disease. No?
I'm confused. Can some smart person here clarify? What exactly is shedding? Thanks.
