2nd Follistim Cycle!

post #1 of 10

This is my second round of Follistim injectables. I have PCOS so the first round was done cautiously and on little doses. I stimmed for 20 days before getting 1 follicle to mature to a 20mm. I triggered and did timed intercourse (my husband is in great condition) but got a BFN. So this Cycle My doses were increased. My baseline E2 was 34.6. I started out on 100iu of follistim and did that for 5 days and went in for U/S and BW. My ultrasound showed nothing over 10mm and my E2 was 62.2. I went back 3 days later for another U/S and BW. This time I had several follies over 10mm (wasn't told how many) and my E2 was 299. So my doctor decided that since I have PCOS he was going to be cautious and he lowered my dose to 75iu. I took that for 2 days and went back in and found out that I have a 15.4mm, 14.4mm, and 10.7mm on my right ovary and a 13.7mm, 13.6mm, 10.4mm and 3- 9mm on my left ovary. My E2 was 382. He then upped my dose to 125iu for two night and I go back in tommorrow for more bw and u/s. They say I will more than likely trigger tommorrow night. So my question is this:

1. Has anyone had a similar situation?
2. If so, What was your outcome?
3. And do you think I am at risk for multiples?
4. Do you think I have a high chance of getting pg this time.

My husband and I have been trying for over 2 years. He is 25 and I am 24. PCOS is our only problem as I dont ovulate without the follistim. This will be out last cycle of timed BD and then I will ask for IUI even though the doc says we don't need it!

Hey- I just had my first round of Follistim, and are in the 2WW. I do not have PCOS like you though. It sounds like your doc is great on monitering and really looking out for you. To answer the questions I would say- yes, you run the risk of multiples. If your two dominate follicles are mature at trigger, its possible. Since your husband is in great shape, you have a great chance of becoming pregnant. What measurment was your lining? What is your progesterone level after ovulation? And why can't you do timed BD with IUI? Best of both worlds.

Natrualmom;

I'm not sure what my lining is this time but Last cycle It was really good. They don't monitor my progesterone but two days after I trigger I begin taking progesterone suppositories. I would love to do IUI but the doc thinks I don't need it and that it would be a waste of money since we are paying everything out of pocket. What size were your follicles and how many?...Tons of Baby Dust to you! I hope you get your BFP!

Hello- I had 3 22ish follies, but my estrogen level showed 1-2 mature eggs. Does your insurance cover the progesterone supplements. I ask because it may be worth checking the cost of a blood draw to check verses the supplement. I really hope we both get BFP's, along with everyone else here!!!!
My doc says the E2 should be about 200 for every mature egg.

Hi! Yes my Insurance does cover the progesterone! Thank goodness! Just an update. I went in for ultrasound this morning and had a 15.6 and 15.4 on my right side and a 16.9, 16.9, 20.0, and 14.6 on my left side. I'm hoping they will hold off on the trigger for another day or two to let those 16.9's mature so I will have at least 3 mature! Best of luck to you and tons of baby dust!

Oh and I forgot...I am waiting on my E2 results so I will update when I get them!

Keep in mind even if you do trigger today, the follies will still have about 36 hours to continue to grow before you actually ovulate. I would definitely say that with those measurements you will ovulate more than one mature egg. My RE said that when your on injectibles anything over 17 is considered mature. Those 16.9's are basically 17's. Good Luck, I really hope this cycle works for you!!!

Thanks for your reply! That's good to know that those 16.9's will more than likely ovulate. I know that means I could have multiples but at this point we would gladly accept that. It has been such a long hard journey! I'm just ready to get that BFP!!

So I got my E2 results: 639. I am to do my trigger shot tonight at midnight and then BD tonight, tommorrow, and Friday! The nurse said that my 20 and two 16.9 will definately ovulate. Possibly my 15's so here's hoping! Anyone else in the same boat?

Oh, best of luck to you. We aren't quite in the same boat, but we have a little of the 2ww together! Yeah for your follies!
