Is CLO actually from the cod fish?

Sounds dumb, but i really don't know. DD is allergic to cod, but also needs gut healing. I was thinking about giving her CLO, but that would be VERY bad if it were actually from the cod fish. I guess bone broth would be cheaper though (and more useful overall, right?)

It is from the codfish. Bone broth is good for glutamine and minerals but in order to get Omega 3s you'd need fish oil of some sort, or else flax or algae oil. Flax has to be converted by the body so fish or algae would be better. You can get salmon oil and other blends of fish oil that are not cod, though.

Cod liver oil is very high in pre-formed A (not beta-carotene like carrots and pumpkins) and D. I think that's part of its benefit, though if your daughter is allergic to cod, then it's almost definitely out (maybe some kids would be okay with the oil if the allergy is to the protein, but I probably wouldn't try it with my kid).

There are food sources for A and D, it's just a bit trickier. Liver, in general, is high in A, and I hear goose and chicken liver are milder than beef. D is in various things, I think shrimp-type seafood is high, and lard can be moderately high.

If you want more (and better!) ideas on food sources, the westonaprice.org website has various articles.

Fish Oil should tell you the sources of their fish (if they didn't, I wouldn't buy it). Not sure if it's as good for gut healing as CLO though (it's what was recommended to me for inflammation, and it also made my cholesterol go down about 60 points). Can she do any kind of fish? We do bone broth, fermented foods, and probiotics.

So fish oil in general is comperable to CLO? She can have fish but just the expensive stuff really. No shirmp but lobster is fine, no cod but salmon is fine, etc...

The fish oil i take is from mommy's bliss and the ingredients state "Refined Fish Oil Concentrate (Anchovy, Sardine), Gelatin, Glycerin, Purified Water, Mixed Natural Tocopherols" so she should be fine if I poke one open and give it to her, right?

Is cod the only thing she's allergic to? Isn't mixed tocopherols usually from soy? I get Vital Nutrients High Potency Fish Oil.

I tried a mixed fish oil, and DD reacted to it pretty bad. I'm hoping to try a HVCLO soon... and keeping my fingers crossed that she won't react. I actually emailed Dr. Rons about their Blue Ice, and they said that it's pretty pure and even people with fish allergies can usually tolerate it. Of course, a fish intolerant person might still react... but I guess we'll find out!
