I have a friend who makes a good living marketing her services. She told me that the more successful marketing techniques she has used have also been the cheapest ones. She gives her business card to EVERYONE. She leaves one with the tip, gives one to the grocery store clerk, etc. You never know what another persons situation may be, so let them know what you have to offer!

Holding informational events/meetings/open houses, is another good idea. Have appetizers or door prizes for guests. Introduce yourself and your business, take questions, hand out brochures, etc.

Having pens with your business info on them is a also a great idea. People use pens and pass them around.

Those are great! Thank you! I'm writing an article on marketing right now and needed more ideas. I suppose I'm just curious what worked best for you. Even if it seems like something that may not be applicable to anyone else, you never know!

I am a doula, and my husband has a tree business that I run. As a doula, my best marketing tip would be get in good with a midwifery group That's obviously very specific, however, it can be molded to whatever you do. What sort of businesses are going to have clients that will also need your service (like midwives- their clients may also need a doula!)

Also, have a website. For the love of pete have a website. Everyone is on the internet anymore. Even if it's just a one pager, something with what you do and your contact information.
