outside food/drinks?

I was talking to a mom at the library the other day (who was nursing her 6month old ds) and she told me that at a restaurant she was asked to stop nursing (not to cover up, but to stop), she told them that the baby was eating just like everyone else.
The waitress pointed to a sign that said 'no outside food/drinks'.
I thought babies didnt count! That just seemed stupid to me.

Uh, did they expect a hungry baby to have a hamburger? That is absurd-- infants and often toddlers have different dietary needs that often cannot be acommodated by restaurant staff. Do they have fresh breastmilk on the menu? Formula? Simple, easy options for older babies and toddlers?

That's just weird. And wrong. And anti-family. And, depending on the state, possibly illegal.

Wow. That is really, really weird. Part of me wonders if the waitress was being facetious?

Would she have said the same thing to a mom feeding her baby formula in a bottle? Because that is most certainly "outside food".

Unbelievable... and probably illegal.

Well, they could stay in business like that. All they'd have to do is become a bar and ban people under 21.

: That's exactly what I thought. And I doubt VERY much that a bottle-feeding mother (whatever's in the bottle) would be treated the same way.

What restaurant was it? That's ridiculous.

wtf?

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Was she seriously SERIOUS?! I probably would have busted out laughing at the waitress...and then gotten really, really mad. :

Holy cow...really? That's absurd if she was serious.

To that, I would have to ask the waitress, "Well are *you* offering breast milk on the menu? And would we have to tip extra?"

Where is that eye-roll smiley?

That would apply to people who bring McDonalds food for their children to another restaurant. It happens often...and it isn't allowed due to the health code. If someone gets sick after eating in a restaurant they need to know it was because of their food...and not because of something from another restaurant.

However, that would NOT apply to formula....so it shouldn't apply to breastmilk either. I would have asked the management.

Uh, yeah. I'd have pointed out that since you were eating the food there, so was your baby. (I know, I know, it's not instantaneous, but what are the chances she'd know that?)

That's what I would think too. Probably a case of an employee running their mouth w/o actually knowing the real policy.

When I worked security at my college's football games, etc. we had a "no outside food/drink policy." However...if you had something for a baby or simply told us it was for "medical reasons" we were trained to let it in no questions asked.

Ha ha ha ha ha!!!

This is awful, but it's also one of the funniest things I have read on here. However, when you think of it, breastmilk is inside food.

That's infuriating, but also absolutely ridiculous and laughable. After all, that would mean a lactating woman couldn't even enter the restaurant b/c she'd be bringing the "outside food" with her. I would've talked to the manager and told off the waitress (after laughing at her for her ignorance and making sure she felt really stupid for such a comment...of course, if she were kidding, that would be a different story)

Exactly. For that matter, a pregnant woman could not enter the restaurant, since her baby would be getting fed through the umbilical cord the entire time. I hope the waitress was kidding!
