Good morning. 1 handed typing w/ Bryson here. He was born fewer than 72 hrs. ago. My milk came in yesterday am, he's nursing & peeing great, but no breastmilk poops yet. Normal? Oh, he did a mec. poop yesterday, which was likely the last of it. (I haven't pooped yet either, and am getting a bit nervous.) Input is appreciated.

It took 5 days for my LO to stop with the meconium and start passing breastmilk--like poop. The doctor said it was normal...don't worry

I agree. IIRC, Nora didn't have her first real BM poop for 5 or so days.
Also, I didn't let myself have my first BM for about the same amount of time! Don't be afraid of it. It is nowhere near as bad as your mind thinks its going to be.

You could try some tummy massage if you're worried about it, it works WONDERS. Some recent clients were worried, even though their doc said it was normal, and tried some infant massage and got a HUGE poop immediately after. This is a simple routine you can do, you want to use a natural oil (like olive or almond or grape seed) not mineral oil:
Paddling Downward: Put your hand, fingers outstretched and together, right below his ribcage with the edge of your hand against his skin. Slide your hand down his belly while placing your other hand in the starting position. When your first hand gets to the bottom of his belly, start moving the other one down. You're making kind of a paddle wheel motion with your hands down his belly. Do this for 4-5 strokes
Hands of the Clock: Next, with the flats of your fingers, you're going to massage clockwise (VERY important, always massage clockwise on any belly - it follows the intestinal route!!!) from his right hip, up along the top of his belly and down to his left hip. When your first hand gets near his left hip, start the other hand going. You'll be making a continuous circle with your hands. Again, do this for 4-5 strokes.
I Love You: Then, take the first two fingers of a hand, and hold them straight together. Start just under his left side ribcage and draw down to his left hip. Then, pick up your fingers and place them just under his right side ribcage, draw them across to the left side and then down to his left hip. Then, pick up your fingers again and place them at his right hip, move them up to his ribcage, across, and down to his left hip, tracing where you've been before. Upside down you're making a big "I", then an "L", and then a "U". Do this about 3 times.
Then you can repeat the cycle. Hopefully that made some sense!
It's much easier to SHOW someone then to try and explain it with words. There are lots of other belly strokes and I highly recommend learning some, especially if a baby is prone to colic or intestinal upset. Heck, go learn all of infant massage... it's amazing!!! (And no, I'm not biased b/c I teach it
) Hope that helps you some!
