I just got back from the doctor because I have some pain under my left arm with no visible injury or lump. She thinks it's a bruised tendon, but also was concerned that it is close to my breast.
She mentioned to me that she would like me to have a mammogram, but knows that I'm still nursing and have been for the last 4 years. I told her that I was pretty sure that it was possible to do a mammogram on a lactating woman, as long as the radiologist was experienced and could read it through the milk
She didn't think anyone here in Ottawa had that kind of experience, sooooo... does anyone know of a doctor who has done this before? I'd be willing to send the results anywhere in North America, since it's not like I'd have to travel.
I'm not interested in weaning my son for a diagnostic procedure based on a suspicion and I have every intention of letting him self-wean.
She also mentioned that an MRI could be done, but we would have to pay out of pocket, so is there anyone here who knows if OHIP would reimburse for that, if there is no radiologist here who will read a mammogram of a lactating woman?
