How long for GI symptoms to subside after allergen/intolerance restriction?

DS has been gluten free for 5 days now b/c I suspect he's intolerant. For 6 weeks now ever since we started him on iron for anemia & introduced wheat he's been gassy with loose stools at least one per day, not diarrhea though, frequent night nursing. He also had a bout of eczema, now healed, for the 1st time in months, and this was after introducing corn. He is allergic to dairy, eggs & peanuts too.

So my question is how soon do poops go back to normal and for gas to improve, etc. I have an appt with the pedi next week, but I worry she'll think I'm paranoid. I don't really feel there is much change although yesterday he had a dry poop (not all sticky on his butt) for the 1st time in 6 weeks, but today's was loose & dark green (from iron?). I guess I'm thinking I need to restrict my diet too assuming it goes through BM. I was really hoping I wouldn't because again, his symptoms really only started when HE started gluten.

thanks!!

If you have not cut these foods out of your diet then your child has been consuming them all along. A BF mom must completely adhere to her BF child's food restraints. Even though you didn't notice gluten related symptoms until he started it directly I would absolutely cut it out of your diet too, or it's really pointless. Sorry. The only answer I can give to the poop question is that when we cut dairy it took a full 6 weeks for DD's poop to get totally normal.

Yep, unfortunately you cannot expect a true test unless it is out of your system as well. Personally I wouldn't start the gf trial until after you see the GI , if you plan on doing mainstream tests he needs to be on gluten. I am not sure your son's age, but be aware that there is a high rate of false negatives for young ones in the blood tests and the endoscopy is not 100% either. So, regardless of what they say it would be worth it to try if that is what you suspect.
