Tell me about Prevnar and Hib. Why or why not?

So far 3 month old DS is not vaxed. I've been leaning towards not vax'ing at all. But today was my older DS's check up. And his ped encouraged me to look into at least Hib and Prevnar for DS3mos, saying he's at risk now.

Tell me why I should.
OR
Tell me why I shouldn't.

I thought I had more time to research and such, but I'm feeling in a bit of a panic now...Thanks for all help!

Do not let anyone rush you. There is no hurry. If you are bf your child then you absolutely don't need either one of those vaccines.

That is how peds work, they rush you into making a decision and then it is often times one you will regret later on.

Too often people come here after their child had a vaccine reaction. Those parents generally did not research before hand. But most of them don't vaccinate their child again. So take your time. Do your research now and do not let anyone rush you.

When your child has a vaccine reaction, that ped will distance himself so quickly you will think it's a different person. And you will be left dealing with the consequences.

Vaccines are nothing natural. They do not belong into your child's body and the moment they are injected, the body will treat it like a the foreign object it is and will try to work hard to remove it again. That takes a toll on every child and that is why we so so many kids with cancer, diabetes and many other modern diseases.

Don't rush, this is the most important decision you will ever make for your child. Your child depends on you to do the research.

if you are nursing your baby, there is almost zero risk of his contracting HiB. there is a swedish study on this and the protection lasts for years and years.

Prevnar is a vaccine for certain bacterial strains. The first generation of this vaccine included 7 strains, which lead to an initial decrease in disease. Very quickly however, strains not covered in the vaccine - strains that never used to cause any trouble, started creating illness and some were even antibiotic resistant. Pharma's answer to this problem? Prevnar was reformulated to include 13 strains of bacteria. My guess is that these 13 strains will stop causing illness and then, we will see other strains that never used to give us trouble causing illness...you see where this is going? Please google Prevnar and serotype replacement for more on this.

My personal thoughts? Our bodies have to regulate an unimaginable balance of viruses and bacteria all the time. Best to keep our immune systems strong and allow it to do its job.

Yeah that!

Read part I and then part II and part III here - (very informative!)

Unfortunately, Ben is not BF anymore for various reasons. Maybe that is why I'm concerned? What are some things I can do to boost his immune system? I know SA and probiotics are good options, but can I give those things to him?

So far I feel like I'm coming back to my senses. There are so many reasons why I do not want to vax him (nor to continue to vax older DS). Erg. Why do I even go to these wbv's? Maybe to CYA in case CPS ever gets involved?

Also keep in mind that most Peds have a pet vaccine. They are okay with you skipping X,Y or Z...but A is sooooooo important. If you don't do any others, you really should do JUST THIS ONE. In my case it was HIB. I was actually told that DD would die if she didn't get that one. Not that she may become very ill or die should she come in contact with the disease and become infected - but that she would actually die from not receiving the vaccine. Needless to say that was our first and last WBV.

BTW - this was the same Ped who insisted that they do not use any vaccines that contain any mercury...until I showed her the package insert in her own vile in her own office.

Why do you think they have a 'pet' vax? Do you think it's because they have bad experiences with the illness? Or do they maybe get kickbacks?

I just know that the diseases Prevnar and Hib supposedly prevent are soooo rare, and I did read that the diseases they prevent are just replaced by other diseases. So, to me, I just don't understand why on earth I should do this to him.

based on previous experiance, most drs have at least one vaccine that they try to get parents to do 1st - the pet vaccine. their professional organizations encourage them to find one vax to try to get reluctant parents to accept. there was a slideshow from a continuing ed class that taught them to find the shot that is least objectionable to parents. the slideshow is linked somewhere in this forum.

HiB, Prevnar, and DTaP seem to be the most common pet vaxes. HiB has a lower rate of side effects (even though it's linked to type 1 diabetes) and the drs sell both of them as preventing deadly meningitis. you are right that the literature doesn't support them as preventing meningitis - they just prevent meningitis from specific bacteria, but the overall meningitis risk remains the same. Prevnar is linked to staff infections. the risk of the shots is real and the benefit is small.

I agree...I think the theory goes that if you can talk a parent into your 'pet' vaccine, convincing them to do the rest will be easier. I mean, after all, they had that one and are fine...right, why don't we try this other one?
