Motivate me...

So I belong to an awesome gym that is a little pricey but........ I don't go! Bah! I am the perfect gym member, I pay to use the facilities but don't use them. I am the gym member that I am sure gym owners count on to make $!

I would like to start waking up early to get to the gym before dh leaves for work. Currently he leaves at 1030 but I would have to be back before the boys wake up (around 8 or 830, maybe 730 to be sure) so the boys don't wake dh before 9. (Dh works late) My gym opens at 530 and it takes me about 20-30 minutes to get there.

My problem is I have such a hard time getting out of bed. How can I motivate myself when I am half asleep? How early do you get up to work out? Any tips?

I've tried to get up early and go to the gym and it doesn't work for me, so I go at night after DS is in bed. This doesn't work for everyone, but it's been part of my routine for a long time. It also helps with the evening munchies.

Can you meet a friend at the gym? Having someone to workout with is very motivating for me.

Does you gym have child care? You could take the kids and go later maybe.

Also, my gym is 1.7 miles from my house and so it very convenient. Is there a way to find something closer so once your motivated you don't loose the mood by the time you get there? Is it a chain that might have a closer location or something?

Don't know if anything helped, but I've always thought the hardest part of working out is actually getting to the gym. Good luck!

My gym is very close - I can usually ride my bike over. I go first thing in the morning because that is the only consistent time for me. Dp works office hours with some flexibility, there are kids activities in the evening, we homeschool plus a toddler and preschooler so mornings are out. Somedays I am a bit late if there is an extra nursing or the like but I make it in because I feel better when I do.

I like to challenge myself with 6-12 week programs that I strive to complete. There are a few in this forum - 100 push-ups, couch-to-5k, I think body-for-life and total-body-makeover start with a 12 week program. Once you have met a challenge or in some way made it more of a habit you may have found your own motivation.

Do they have babysitting? Why not take the kids?

If they have babysitting, take advantage! That's how I get myself motivated; it's my break from mommying. I get to take a shower afterward and everything. Bliss.
