So frustrated.

4 yr old unvaxed DD informed me yesterday that at Grandma's yesterday she poked herself with a needle that she found there when noone was watching. It turns out it wasn't a needle but a safety pin (opened.) The wound doesn't look too bad but of course now I'm freaking out because I didn't see it happen and who knows how deep it was. I cleaned it as soon as I found out but I am so worried it could cause tetanus. The only thing she told me was that it bled a little bit and she wiped it with a paper towel. Surely it wasn't too deep, or it would have been more painful and/or hard to remove, right? Need some reassurance here.

If it bled, chances are excellent you have nothing to worry about. Tetanus bacteria require an anaerobic environment. Not to mention that if your 4yo has no immune system issues and Grandma doesn't live in a barn or livestock pasture, the safety pin probably wasn't a tetanus risk anyway.

Just my $0.02.

Kids get cuts/scrapes/pokes/other owies all the time, and you probably don't know about at least half of them! It was just a safety pin, I'm sure it's fine She's young, she's healthy, she has good circulation...
