Nice success story...

Not sure if this goes here, but I'd thought I'd share a nice story. I have a very good friend who, when preg w/#1, was fairly ambivalent about nursing. The fairly common "if it works out" approach. She had a lot of common misinformati *forever* by U.S. standards, but none of her other close friends have kids, and the mothers in her family nursed for no more than 6 months.

I offered as much support and info as I could w/o being off-putting, gave her my fav BFing books, and crossed my fingers.

Anywho...baby was born, they faced HUGE, HUGE challenges to nursing (I don't want to give details but suffice it to say there were serious medical complications that lasted for quite a while, and few mother/baby pairs w/this magnitude of problem end up nursing, never mind EBF) but went on to EBF for 6 months, even after returning to work! She works long hours, so pumping to EBF was hard, and she started supplementing. I talked to her about how it didn't have to be "all or nothing" - babe could get some formula but she could also still nurse when she's home (she didn't realize this, all the women @ her job wean before returning to work). Fastforward to nine months...they're still nursing! Woo-hoo
