So we are moving to Fairfax, Va on halloween to the Regent apartments.. i think. i don't know anyone in the area!!! right now we live really close to my friends and family so this is going to be sort of new for me. I grew up here and I love it where we are but it in just not feasible anymore.

dp has been commuting from baltimore to falls church for awhile now and we finally said we are done and are going to move before our lease it up. problem with this is we found out we are moving.. oh right today . and i know very little about the area. like i said dp works there... but hes not the most observant of men

I need Reccomendations!!

Pediatrician/ Family Doctor (as holistic as possible)
Well woman care
Psychiatrist

Also- are there any natural food stores in the area? where do you guys do your shopping? i only saw a really big rite aid lol .. i have only been in the area like twice. I meet four other moms today.. and every one of them told me ds wanted to get out of the wrap Im hoping there are some AP/NFL mamas in the area.. i dont get out much right now and am hoping to meet some more people.

So thank you sooo much in advance for the suggestions. I'm in a panic to figure out how to move in a week!

I wasn't sure where the Regent apartments were so I googled... it looks like they're right by the Vienna Metro station? If so you're not far from the most amazing park http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/c...playground.htm

There are Whole Foods stores around the area. There's also a Healthway grocery store. Many of the chain grocery stores have decent natural foods sections (try Wegmans) and international food sections. Trader Joe's is another good place to try.

You're also not far from the farm where I get my CSA http://potomacvegetablefarms.com/ Their farm stand is only open through Nov 1st so by the time you get settled it will be closed but they sell organically grown produce (not certified organic but they grow organically). They also sell eggs and meats.

For well woman care I use Loudoun Community Midwives. http://www.lcmidwives.com/ They might be further away then you want to go though. It's a drive but I think it's worth it. I see Wendy but all of the ladies are great.

For a primary care doc I see Elizabeth Anderson at this practice. http://imacdocs.com/ She's more of a "traditional" doc than the midwives are but she also didn't bat an eyelash when I told her I was still nursing my 2.5 year old.

Our pediatrician is http://www.unionmillpediatrics.com/ We like all 4 of the docs. We do vax so I can't speak to how they work with non-vaxing families. I'd assume it would be "here's the party line, sign here to show that I told you this" and then move on but I don't know for sure.

Welcome to the area!!!

Welcome to Fairfax! The Vienna metro station is a great location. There's a Safeway near there (Pan-Am shopping center) that usually has a pretty good selection of fresh organic produce.

There really are a lot of great places for grocery shopping around here. Healthway is wonderful - I go to the Annandale location when possible - it's much bigger. Wegmans is really nice, but can get a little crowded and crazy. Still worth the trip though.

I've been with the BirthCare midwives for OB/GYN for a while now. I love them. They're in Old Town Alexandria, but well worth the drive. www.birthcare.org

For a pediatrician, we use Alexandria pediatrics. http://www.alps.medem.com/ We used to live in Alexandria, and it's kind of far now that we're in Burke, but I like them a lot. It's a fairly large practice. We usually see Amy Landis, nurse practicioner, but we have seen and loved Dr. Azi too. She's definitly open minded about selective/delayed vaccines, and extremely pro-breastfeeding.

I've been to see Dr. David www.judithdavid.com/ for counciling before, and she was very down to earth. I definitely recommend her.

I hope your move goes smoothly!

Just wanted to say I lived in the Regent's Tower apartments. GREAT location, lovely apartments. You picked a nice place to live!

Seconding the recommendation for Loudoun Community Midwives. I see Wendy too.....she was the midwife at the birth of my son. They're awesome!

Welcome to the area! I live not too far from there, closer to Fairfax City.

Just to echo what others have said, Wegmans and Trader Joe's both have good selections. Wegmans IS crazy on the weekends. I tend to go in the late afternoon during the week and it's MUCH calmer!

Wegmans Fairfax is located at 11620 Monument Drive.
There are several Trader Joe's, but the closest is at 9464 Main St (Rt 236).

I just had my baby with Birthcare and plan to continue using them for well woman care.

Very strange about the wrap... but then again, this area can be quite strange! I had my little one in the Moby at the library and then at a picnic the other day, and numerous people commented on how neat it was. I met some like minded moms at local La Leche League meetings. There are also several local groups you might be interested in - an AP group, a babywearing group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Babywearing_in_DC-MD-VA/ , etc.

Hope your move went ok!
