disintegrating prefolds

I have 2 dozen prefolds that are almost falling apart. They were from a "trendy" baby store and are barely going to make it through my second kid. My question for you industrious people is whether they would be of any use in diaper making when we are through with them. I hate throwing anything out and was wondering if they could be used as a lining for homemade diapers.

i had some of these, i just gave them to dh for grease and stuff, i wish i would have thought to use them for more diapers.

I guess it depends on how badly they are falling apart. You could cut a large oval out of the centre (or least wrecked part), sandwich it between a layer of microfleece and a layer of diaper flannel and make doublers.

You could fold them into thirds, and cover with flannel to make inserts for pocket diapers.

I am going to try to turn one we have that my MIL bleached into the insides of a fitted diaper. I am hoping to even put some extra absorbancy into it.

I use them to stuff pockets as long as they are still basically in one piece.

I sewed some old flats into fitted diapers, and regretted it. I put a LOT of work into something that fell apart very quickly because the fabric was already very weak.

Personally, I'd use these diapers as cleaning rags (or pocket stuffers) and use new materials for diaper making- unless you sew these as the inner absorbant layer and they're completely encased in new material that will hold up in the wash.
