So sick of it already!!

All of the "flu vax clinics" and such - UGH!! Seems like no matter where I go, there will be a flu shot clinic there at some point.

My 8 yr old brought home a flyer yesterday about an after school flu vax clinic for Nov. 5th. Of course, it had the "myths & facts" on one side, and on the other, the details of how to get your kid(s) vaxed. It's from the CDC, so you can imagine what it said .

"The worst side effect you're likely to get from a flu shot is a sore arm."

"Getting the vaccine is your best protection against this disease"

"The flu shot cannot cause the flu. Some people get a little soreness or redness where they get the shot. Serious problems from the flu shot are very rare."

Excerpt from the parents letter:

"Dear Parents & Guardians,
Influenza (the "flu") can be a serious disease for children of all ages, causing them to miss school, activities, be hospitalized, and in rare but tragic cases, die."

What a nice opening sentence, huh??

<snip>
Vaccinating children protects not only the child, but everyone they come into contact with.

Sure, it is .

...unless the child gets a live virus vaccine, in which case he will be shedding influenza viruses for up to three weeks.

Makes me wonder what attendance will be like 2-3 weeks after this "clinic".

I know what you mean. I walked into CVS they had a flu shot clinic in the store! It's ridiculous!

It's getting out of hand. I've never gotten the flu shot and I haven't had the flu in years.

Isn't the flu vax like what 45% effective? I wouldn't exactly say thats my best protection! lol

Ugh. I'm rather irritated at people (mostly on "mainstream" websites, not so much IRL), saying "You DEFINITELY need to get the flu shot since you are pregnant! Don't you want to protect your baby?" WTF?

I have NEVER had the flu, and have NEVER had the flu shot. I'll take my chances of catching it the "natural" way vs. being almost certain to get sick from the shot. I don't work around children, the elderly, or sick people, so I'm really not worried about it.

Wow. I'd definitely AVOID the shot when pregnant!

I'll take my chances too.

Ugh. I hear ya! These clinics are everywhere. The stupid Army just gave my asthmatic dh the FluMist (um, you're not supposed to give FluMist to people with asthma), and within 6 hours, he was having trouble breathing. He had to stay home from work the next day. 2 other people he works with got sick that day, too. Just a coincidence? I don't think so. (And I reported my dh's asthma problem in VAERS.)

I'm so sorry about your DH. Glad you reported it though!

"Vaccinating children protects not only the child, but everyone they come into contact with."

So I should throw my kid under the bus for the greater good?? I DON'T THINK SO.... As for the Flu Mist when I was in the military they were testing this. Guess who was a free test subject!!! I had a HORRIBLE reaction from the Flu Mist that included trouble breathing, racing heart, and feeling sick. Then for almost a month I had LIME GREEN snot pooring out of my nose it never ended. It was disgusting. Thankfully after that I didn't have to get it anymore.

I saw the signs up at my DS's school for a clinic that will be at the school on the 6th. I looked for some sort of permission slip or such in his backpack but nothing. I am going to talk to his teacher on Monday and make sure that she knows he won't be getting it. I know they aren't supposed to be allowed to give it without permission but I don't want a mistake made.

Yes, I noticed that our local Target is going to give flu vaccines on one of the weekends next month. I need to double check on the dates so that I don't go shopping there! No reason to get exposed to a bunch of people shedding FluMist. I guess I'll have to shop at their competitor that weekend.

Wow, the CDC is contradicting itself....again! Imagine that. I am absolutely sure it says on the CDC site that the best way to avoid the flu are common sense things (avoiding people with flu) and handwashing!

yeah, i'm also sick of all the fearmongering and advertising. DS won't be going to school for a few more years, but I wonder if they have these flu shot clinics at our local schools...
