Organic Reduex! An FO of different sorts

DD2 is need of some longies and I was feeling rather...umm....lazy one day. I love these shorties and they still fit but are a tad cold. So what did I do?

I picked the hem and picked up my stitches. They're longies now!

(Pardon the crappy pics...it's night and fall and I'm using a cell phone...my lighting is not the most ideal )

In the end they are very much not what I had envisioned. : They work though. They need washed again (I'm sure the pics shows that all too well ). They look "off" at times but only because the body is faded and the legs aren't. I want to embroider something on the butt to detract from that but I don't know what. Ideas?

Those look great! So cute
It's hard to tell colors, but maybe some fish would work?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for that idea! I was just thinking today how depressing it was that I have all of thse shorties that won't fit him in the spring, and only one pair of longies. I am so gonna do this!

It's hard to tell exactly what colors are in there but maybe you could put some squash and/or some greenery. I was thinking of making a long green chain and turning it into a tree. There are some great ideas on Ravelry and Etsy, too.

Squash would be great! They remind me of fire so I've been stuck on "fire engine" even though I don't want to.

Some white in there on the brick red stripe would help pull it all together too.

I did that with a few pairs of ds's shorties; living in Florida, it's shorties for 3/4 of the year and then longies 1/4, so it made no sense whatsoever to knit only longies! I really like the patch look, though. Sometimes it was even the case that I'd lost or used up most or ALL of the original yarn, so I had to do what I could with new yarn for the leg portion and then crochet a new drawstring to *kind of* tie the two sections together. (Here's an example from Ravelry.) I think yours turned out super cute, and I bet you'll be getting IRL compliments on them all the time!! Oh, but one thing I did notice: with mine at least, the leg join was a weak point as the toddler got bigger and more active. I had to knit knee patches on one pair to make them last the winter.
