8 shots in one visit??

My mother just informed me that my nephew just had 8 shots at his last appointment. Coud this be true? Surely she's mistaken. Anyone else hear of a child having this many vaccines at one visit?

Seems possible.... perhaps she was counting individual diseases vaxed for, not needles.

Because my oldest wasn't "up to date" he was given 5 injections at once.He had 2 in each thigh and one in his arm.It was awful and I didn't know where to hold him.I've since stepped off that train, but it might be eight diseases like Angela said.

I think with all the combo shots now you could conceivably get three shots against 8 diseases.

How old is your nephew? Was he "behind"?

According to the Canadian schedule, a child under 7 who was not immunized in early infancy should get on the first visit:

DtaP-IPV
Hib
MMR
Varicella
Hep B
Pneumococcal conjugate
Meningococcal C

That is seven vaccines, for a total of TWELVE diseases. Can you believe it? What the heck are people thinking??

I'm sorry, but that's child abuse.

I imagine some doctors would want to toss in the flu vaccine too (depending on the season) which would make 8. (Blech, that can't be healthy).

8 vaccines, but not 8 shots. The CDC recommendation for a 2 month old is:
DTaP
IPV
Rotavirus
Hep B
Pneumococcal
HIB

If you count the individial diseases (diptheria, tetanus, and pertussis), you'd have 8.

Well, I'm not going to call and ask because it's such a sensitive subject with me. I talked so much to my brother explaining vaccines links to autoimmune disorders and autism (we have much of both in our family) and informed him of his states Exemption laws, etc. I'm just so aggravate. This baby boy is so sweet and it tears me up. I just hope he's ok.

Oh, and this is his 6 or 8mo appt.
