where did i go wrong

i made a scarf for DH out of Miraso Sulka, in Lime and Caramel. its Crocheted on 6,5mm hook

i CH 75, worked a row in SC, then worked in back loop only in caramel tehn 2 rows lime 2 rows caramel etc etc. i worked till i ran out fo yarn, the caramel want first. so i did an edging in the left over Lime but ran out 7 Stitches before the end.

what did i do wrong,
should i of chained less, i chained enought so DH felt comfortible. it fits as a small scarf. he doesnt mind that its a bit odd, says it add character to it but i want to know for next time

When I crochet scarves, I ususally go the other direction. I chain a short row to the width I need, and then I keep going until it's the length I need it to be. That might make it easier for you to customize the sizing, as you can keep trying it on until it's long enough, then stop.

It sounds like your only "problem" was that you ran out of yarn. I hate when that happens!

With only 75 stitches, I'm guessing she was working it lengthwise. That'd be an awfully short scarf otherwise.

However, I do agree that the only problem was simply not having enough yarn. I make lots of single-skein projects, but those are with larger--6oz to 8oz--skeins. The more expensive the yarn, it seems, the smaller the skein.

That's what I was trying to say. Rather than doing a few long rows, I do a lot of short rows, kwim?

Well yes, but I meant that I imagine that's the way the OP does it as well, being that 75 is a small number for a scarf. Or at least I assume it to be (scarves are against my religion ); I know that baby blankets I make tend to be a lot longer than that, a minimum of 100 chs, & aren't scarves typically pretty long?

it is a small scarf, more a neck warmer than a scarf. if ur on ravelry you can see in in my projects (im onemagicmummy there too)

i knew i wouldnt have enought yarn for a long scarf.

Ah. Okay. I don't make scarves, so...You really do need to make sure you buy more than enough yarn for anything you want to do. You can always make scrap afghans with the leftovers.

I have learned to always over estimate my yarn needs. if you're using a pattern, be sure to swatch and get gauge.
