baby b:sleeping due to not enough food?

my baby Benjamin (7 weeks old) has been pulling on and off the breast and crying each time for almost half the feedings for the last week or so. He had a cold and seems to have liquid or mucous in his breathing at times, at other times putting him vertical and burping him alot seem to work. I saw a lactation consultant who said he has a hard time keeping the suction and his mouth is getting too tired to get the milk out and becoming frustrated. She believes that his tongue is not moving correctly and it is causing less milk to come out than he needs. She suggested supplementing with a bottle of breastmilk and then finishing up at the breast. I tried this last night and it seemed to help in that he seemed to sleep, but the baby seemed to become upset that he was getting a bottle from daddy and not a breast from mommy. It seemed that he was hungry and was too upset at the breast, so we tried this bottle. There are so many contradicting ideas about all of this. This morning I think he is hungry as he did not have barely anything to eat it seemed. He seemed ok and then cried so we tried again. He did not want the breast so we played for a little while, then he was fussing and then fell asleep while bouncing with Daddy. The main question is wouldn't he keep crying if he was so hungry, or is his sleeping perhaps due to not enough food but giving up? Or am I projecting? And any thoughts on baby being upset at the bottle?

Most babies will tell you when they are hungry, mine did not. Ilana and a weak suck and I had a low supply (1/2 caused by me, I always have been low, and 1/2 caused by her issues) and by the time the ped told us we should look at supplementing (4 mos, she was 9#3oz), she was sleeping most of the day and for 6 or so hours at night and rarely interacted w/ us at all. It was horrible and I felt terrible. Does he have any reflux symptoms? www.infantrefluxdisease.com Are you pumping often to make sure your supply stays up? What bottle are you using? Has he been checked for a tongue tie? The bottle is a new idea, it can be frustrating if he's not used to it. Have you thought of maybe using a Lact-Aid or SNS instead of a bottle?
