Hi Zinemama - My child attends an elementary school in PPS as well. I have to ask you which school your child attends because we only just pulled the plug on movie viewing during indoor recess last year. And that was after taking it up to the Area Director. Now our kids can color. That's it. And for young boys, this is painful to say the least considering they color most of the day as it is - we get piles of worksheets home weekly.

I'm just curious because PPS seems so inequitable as some schools meet such higher standards than others.

We live in Georgia, and the kids are kept inside if it's raining or "feels like" it's below 40. Above zero. Honestly, though, no one dresses for the weather. Kids go to school in light jackets and no gloves (and sometimes even shorts) even when it's in the 20s. Dressing that way is ok when you're just darting into a building, but it's not great when you're outside for 20 minutes and it's windy.

When my kids have indoor recess, they stay in the classroom and read and play board games.

Movies at my school. The gym is in use during lunch and there is no place for the kids to go except for the small stage. There is not much choice unless I give up my lunch to supervise my class in the classroom.

I have noticed that in K, the indoor recess was always shows and movies. But my second grader has his indoor recess in the gym, they watch no movies or TV in school (unless it's for a lesson). I'm not sure why they seem to do it that way. I have no clue why the K kids can't go into the gym but the 2nd graders can. But I am happy to know they aren't babysat by TV for their entire school career.

I wish the schools around here would take that approach!! It seems like every year they pull them inside for less extreme conditions. And this is Vermont for goodness sakes!

I'm all for sending them outside!
