Postpartum Pain Questions

Okie doke... got 2 for you

Breastfeeding:
Doing great, have an awesome (maybe too plentiful) supply, Katherine's nursing like a pro... BUT on my right breast I got a blister that has now scabbed up. I've been pumping from it to keep the milk flow good and rotating airing it out and putting lanolin on it. Anyone know anything I can do for the pain on the nipple or something I can do to help it heal faster?

My Girly Parts:
I have a small tear. It's not that bad but it is a little tender, especially when trying to wash up down there or when trying to sit down or get up. I've been keeping as much pressure off of it but it's still tender. What else can I do to make it feel better and not be as sore and about how long until it heals if anyone might know?

I'm sure different things work for different people, but my 2 cents worth is to try warm tea bags (black tea) on your nips. I do take ibuprofen occasionally to help with the pain as well. As stingy as it might be, let your nips air dry after a feeding, and apply either your lanolin or I've been using the Earth Mama Angel Baby Nipple Butter which is very nice.

As for your girly parts, I also had a few tears and skid marks and got a lot of relief from Earth Mama Angel Baby New Mama Bottom Spray. I wouldn't have survived the first week w/o it. Using a peri bottle with warm water and iodine was also very helpful during and sometimes in b/w peeing.

I found my girly bits were pretty much "better" -- meaning I could sit normally, scoot more, and wash myself with my puff in the shower down there after about a week and a half. But I'm still patting when I wipe and I'm just over 3 weeks post partum.

mama! Feel better soon - and it does get better!

I got stitches on a small tear & they felt much better by 1 week and all better by 2 weeks. 3 weeks pp now and definatly 100%. I thought it helped to squat to pee like when you go in the woods so the urine comes out without actually touching any ouchies. After patting dry I patted with some witch hazel to keep things nice & clean.

Good luck!

#1, I second the tea bags, just hold plain black tea bags undre a warm tap till tea comes out, squeeze the eexcess off, put em on. there are cooling gel pads for sale at cvs too, they gave me some in the hosp they were nice. if your latch is ok it should heal soon, i got blisters at first too but they healed. also rub some bm into them.

#2 do you have a sitz bath? just soak your bottom in aouple inches of warm water a few times a day, should help.

nips-just from personsl experience- air drying does not help unless you have yeast. especially if you have a scab- rub in some breast milk, then put on a good nipple cream. L'Occitane mama & bebe balm spreads very easily.

girly parts- warm compress? try not to sit on soft surfaces.

Actually, LLL now discourages the use of the black tea bags--there seems to be some compound in them that promotes drying and cracking of the nipple. I'll see if I can find a resource to put up on that. . .

You can still nurse on the damaged nipple (unless you can't stand the pain). As long as the latch is good, the nipple will heal, even with frequent nursing.

HTH!

I have the same spray and it's done wonders for my girly parts and my entire bottom, actually. I definitely recommend it.

My mw recommended aloe vera (straight from the plant) for both issues.
