I'm making a pinata for my daughter's birthday and am trying to come up with things to make to put inside. We're trying to go with a flower theme.Any ideas?

Here's what we ended up with.

Flower stickers, flower-shaped beads, marzipan flowers, folded up bundles of green, yellow, and red/blue/etc. pipe cleaners to make flowers with, tiny packages of origami paper, flower temporary tattoos?

Thanks for the ideas!

So far we have or I'm working on:

hair rubber bands with felt flowers sewn on
drinking straws with fake flowers(I put the straw through the stem hole)
flower magnets
tattoos
super balls(ok those aren't flower but who doesn't like a super ball?)

I crochet scrunchies that are really easy - they take very little yarn and you crochet around a hair band. I got step by step instructions from a crochet book for kids, but I just found this entire page of ideas:

http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com...scrunchies.php

We have also made scarves from netting type fabric from Joanns - the width of the fabric, just cut about 6-8" wide ... hours of fun! I don't know how to describe the fabric except that it's kind of like netting, and some of it has glittery bits in it ... it's for fancy dresses or costumes. We're planning on making some for DD's upcoming fairy-princess birthday party.

Thanks for the ideas Janis!

Yesterday I made flower finger puppets to add to the loot. And we're going to make book marks with flower stickers on them.

I forgot to say - I am so happy to hear that you're making the pinata, too. We make a pinata every birthday for my DD - and it's a blast. It's a chance to get messy and creative. I refuse to cater to pre-planned birthday crap. So, we make our own invitations (and DELIVER them!), decorations, pinata, and cake. We try to make the party favors, but sometimes we don't have enough time for "all" creativity.

Her first birthday party was a playdo party, and we made koolaid playdo to play with and to send home. I am hoping my youngest will be interested in that idea for her first party in February. (I also refuse to have birthday parties at all until they are 5, and they can invite one friend per year)

have fun!

Yeah,I too refuse to buy all the premade birthday stuff. Not only is it expensive but it seems such a waste of "stuff",if that makes sense.Plus my daughter and I make the birthday things together. It gives her a sense of accomplishment.

This year we used this idea to make a birthday banner.

how did you do the petals, if I might ask? DD & I were discussing our piñata this evening, and she wants a disco ball/star! ack! I don't know how to make it shiny without being non-recyclable in the end. (she wants a princess/fairy/fashion birthday party - we still need to discuss the details ... I don't think a 9 year old needs a "fashion" party, but I think she just means fancy dress & tea party stuff)

I cut out the petal shape and made a little flap at the bottom to glue it onto the pinata. Then I made another little flap that I glued to the pinata and the petal to help hold it up.Does that make sense?

I've seen silver tissue paper. It's not shiny like a disco ball but...I bet it would do the trick.

Good luck with your pinata!

this is what we found today online ... http://jas.familyfun.go.com/arts-and...e=CraftDisplay

DD is super excited by it, so I guess we have to go shopping for sparkly paper now.
